Nine House Democrats voted against a GOP-authored resolution that rejected all forms of antisemitism and says Israel is “not a racist apartheid state” following comments from Rep. Pramila Jayapal that criticized the Middle Eastern democracy.

The nine Democratic lawmakers that voted against the measure were: Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Cori Bush of Missouri, Andre Carson of Indiana, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Delia Ramirez of Illinois.

I agree with the nine. Israel is a racist apartheid state. Israel is a country and is not same thing as all who are Jewish or participate in the Jewish faith. Only the uninformed or those with underhanded political aims would try to conflate them. Only the uninformed or racists could look at what Israel is doing to Palestine and think that it is okay.

Israel is considered to be a flawed democracy that is slouching down towards authoritarianism. It seems unreasonable to condem criticism when there is room for obvious improvement.

The issue isn't antisemitism. The issue is Israel not abiding by human rights and international legal norms.

While that my be the explicitly stated intentions of the bill, the effect is to try to cast aspersions on those with legitimate criticisms of Israel, and to chill discussion of Israeli abuses.

OP premise is a typical political trick. Say opponents are against every specific thing in the bill that contains multiple and diverse provisions.

The bill is also about declaring that Israel is not an apartheid state and declaring that the US will always support Israel. It's probably one of those sections that they had an issue with.

It's a "trap bill" the whole purpose is to generate segments on Fox News, etc. and to give material for RW bloggers and posts to social media.
