  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The IRS whistleblowers said the recommendation called for Hunter Biden to be charged with tax evasion and filing a false tax return – both felonies – for 2014, 2018 and 2019. The IRS also recommended that prosecutors charge him with failing to pay taxes on time, a misdemeanor, for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, according to the transcripts, which were released Thursday by House Republicans

An Internal Revenue Service criminal investigator who has accused Justice Department officials of show-walking a long-running probe into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter’s tax affairs has cut off communication with a key congressional committee amid questions about the veracity of his claims and his motivations for coming forward.
Not the actions of someone whose story would hold up outside of an overly friendly audience.

Oh no another "whistleblower" I wonder if they're
- dead
- haven't been heard from in three years
- are on Kash Patel's payroll
- are disgruntled former employees

I don't put to much thought in this. I'm sure there's a lot of people, that owes the IRS. They mainly want the money back. Since Hunters Biden paid it. The IRS got what they want. If I didn't know Conservative Christian, that are guilty of this. Then I would be more shocked.

I don't think the story is all that ridiculous. I don't doubt that investigators wanted more charges.

It's not uncommon for prosecutors to end up having to "cut a deal" (and aim for lower charges) in order to balance out justice vs. "the path of least resistance given the circumstances"

It said that the Trump-appointed US attorney "eventually reached a plea deal"

That's the standard dynamic in the criminal justice system. For instance, it's not uncommon for police detectives (investigators) to try to scrounge up every bit of evidence they can for a heavy charge, only for the prosecutor to make a plea deal in order to try to ensure victory in the courtroom.

A factoid that many probably aren't aware of (courtesy of the American Bar Association)
Estimates vary, but most legal professionals agree that 90 percent of all criminal convictions are the result of negotiated pleas.

I'm sure every cop who investigates a homicide and learns the grizzly details probably wants to see the book thrown at the perp...however, the majority of homicides end in a plea deal for manslaughter instead of murder.

In this particular case, Hunter has money, is well-connected, and probably has access to lawyers on retainer that cost more than most people's houses. A prosecutor is going to have a serious uphill battle trying to get him on anything serious (just like every other rich, connected guy). They took the win where they could get it (just like prosecutors do in 90% of cases)

Let's just be frank here... Hunter's never going to spend a day in prison for the same reason Trump will never spend a day in prison. In our current legal framework, prison is for poor people who don't have connections.

Maybe he doesn't want the FBI to retaliate, and hold his personal belongings in storage, while his children go without winter clothing.

If you really thought the guy was in danger, why create a post here with a link to an article with his name in it?

Case and point:
When someone gets fired at my office, they walk you out immediately, without having a chance to return to your desk, in order to prevent you from retaliating or disrupting. They ship your belongings home. Sometimes that takes a few days. You've posted a similar example, and nothing more.

OP has been refuted.

Garland denies allegations of politics impacting Hunter Biden plea deal

“As I said at the outset, Mr. [David] Weiss, who was appointed by President [Donald] Trump as the U.S. Attorney in Delaware and assigned this matter during a previous administration, would be permitted to continue his investigation and to make a decision to prosecute any way in which he wanted to and in any district in which he wanted to,” Garland said during a press conference at Justice Department headquarters about a crackdown on fentanyl precursors. “I don’t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him from bringing a prosecution given that he has this authority,” Garland added. “He was given complete authority to make all decisions on his own.”

In deposition testimony released Thursday, IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley described alleged interference by prosecutors with Weiss’ probe, claiming that the prosecutor’s efforts to file criminal charges had been turned down by officials in Washington and that Weiss was subsequently denied the independence conferred by special counsel status.

However, Garland said he never received such a request from Weiss. “Mr. Weiss never made that request to me,” the attorney general said. Garland added that Weiss “has more authority” than would a special counsel, who is effectively required to clear certain major decisions with the attorney general.

The attorney general noted that Weiss confirmed in a letter to Congress that he’d been given sweeping authority. Garland also said he’d welcome Weiss testifying to Congress whenever the prosecutor thinks the time is right. “I would support Mr. Weiss explaining or testifying on these matters when he deems it appropriate,” the attorney general said.

Weeks are more than days.

You would do well to listen to the rest of his testimony on the abuse that he has endured for doing his job under this Administration.

There was a paperwork delay? With the government? Say it ain't so.
You would do well to listen to the rest of his testimony on the abuse that he has endured for doing his job under this Administration.
I'm sure Joe Biden never even heard of this guy, much less directed whatever abuse he allegedly endured. He was without his favorite shirt for a week while the paperwork sat on someone's desk, and that's abuse?

I've never seen any evidence that Joe Biden has interfered with law enforcement under any circumstances. Rumors started by Guiliani don't count.

"an unnamed IRS agent who was on the case nearly from its inception"
Let's post that entire paragraph instead of selectively editing it :

The allegations come from Gary Shapley, a 14-year IRS veteran, who oversaw parts of the Hunter Biden criminal probe, and an unnamed IRS agent who was on the case nearly from its inception. Shapley approached Congress this year with information that he claimed showed political interference in the investigation. He and the entire IRS team were later removed from the probe.
So back to where we started, I believe you were saying that the whistleblower was in grave danger because of being exposed, just a few posts after posting an article with his name and biographical information in it.

I wonder what other parts of the right wing fairy tale require us to ignore large swaths of actual information about the case.

What I actually said, what you believe I said, and what each individual whistleblower believes, are all very different things; aren't they?

Relevance? Which answer to which of these questions will resolve the contradiction in your previous posts in this thread?
