  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christie is outspoken and likeable and entertaining.

He also governed in NJ, and could not have been elected there without a healthy dose of moderation.

While I don't think he will win, I think he will serve a Bernie Sanders type role.

He will hold other candidates accountable

He will call out hypocrisy, dishonesty and plain old nonsense.

Not everyone will vote for him but almost everyone would find him good company at a neighborhood bar or picnic.

Of the other Republican candidates, only Asa Hutchinson would pass that test. He is very amiable but not as entertaining.

I'm not sure I've forgiven Christie for the period of time that he was an outspoken follower of Trump. He's been speaking out against Trump for a while now, but I still have to question his judgement. At this point, I'd take him over Trump, DeSantis, and Biden, but not Haley.

Christie could be a reasonable Republican candidate. I'm in New Jersey, so I got to see him as governor. There were things I liked about him and things I disliked, but most of the things I disliked were state-level items (like inadequate funding of public education), and some of the things I liked will work at the national level (like being willing to work with people of the other party). Obviously, I wouldn't vote for him -- I'm much more liberal than he is -- but he's one of the better Republican possibilities I've seen so far.
