  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what is the best tactical decision for Trump? Participating or avoiding republican primary debates. ?

Trump is definitely the best tv show ever. I would like a Hypothetical discussion about what are the best tactics for the Trump
campaign, you can discuss whether he is good or bad in other threads
I heard a theory that Trump will avoid debates this time because they will only hurt him
Many republicans don't like his "Desanctus" attacks and some independents don't like Janurary 6th so
a good strategy might be not to debate, can win the primary because he is in the lead and Biden lose by being really bad at his job.

With Larry Elder in the race, it would probably be best for Trump to avoid debates. Elder is a talk show host and attorney who will be very comfortable picking apart his opponents' arguments.
I suspect Trump would strongly disagree with you about that. And say that he's going to eat "Larry the Loser" (or whatever nickname he comes up with) for lunch.

It appears anything he does works to his advantage. So it doesn't matter.

Sure, can't wait to find out what cringeworthy nickname Trump will come up with that will totally intimidate Elder in Trump's mind.

It's an interesting question.

What does he need out of the primaries? He doesn't need debate wins, he needs wins in the primary elections. I think he can do that just by holding rallies in important states in the lead up to elections; warm up his base who will vote for him no matter what absurd thing he says at the rally.

If the GOP primaries are organized the same way -- where the top vote getter generally gets all the 'electoral' votes -- Trump can probably coast easily through the map. Even if he gets 35% of the vote, none of the other handful of people will likely get more, at least until other candidates drop out leaving only 1 anti-Trump option.

Although Trump likes national attention, he doesn't need it the way the other candidates do who need the debates to raise their recognition level and make their case to people who've never heard of them before. They don't have much of a base, and someone will need to get one, fast, that can rival Trump's.

And the GOP is apparently sticking to its rule that, in order to participate in the debates, candidates need to swear an oath to support the eventual nominee. Trump has balked at doing so, so if nothing else this may prevent his participation in the debates.

Strategy-wise, I think he shouldn't participate in the GOP primary debates.

I think his best strategy is moving to a country that won't extradite him. And the best thing is that all of them would allow him to avoid Republican primary debates. He could lay low until he was (God forbid!) inaugurated again so he could claim immunity. Let's face it, he always said Biden campaigned from his basement, so Trump could campaign from a cave in Afghanistan, or a tent in Saudi Arabia, or a skyscraper in mainland China.
There are more than I thought:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and

Herzegovina, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burma, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, the Central

African Republic, Chad, Mainland China, Comoros, Congo (Kinshasa), Congo (Brazzaville), Djibouti, Equatorial

Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan,

Kosovo, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Macedonia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Marshall Islands,

Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal,

Niger, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Rwanda, Samoa, São Tomé & Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia,

Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu,

Vatican, Vietnam and Yemen.

I'm pretty sure the Pope won't want him in the Vatican, although Pope Francis lives in a hotel for visiting bishops. Trump Hotels would be far too glitzy for him.
Mainland China? He could supervise Ivanka's factories.
Armenia? Isn't that in Eastern Europe. Melania might like that.
Brunei? Perhaps he could run for Sultan.
Saudi Arabia? I think he has lots of friends there, and many of them are polygamists, something he might be interested in.

There are all sorts of choices, all of which are better than the NY prisons--Sing Sing, Rikers Island...

Since The Donald and WWE impressario Vince McMahon are friends, Trump could likely take a classic pro wrestling trope:
In this particular gambit, the wrestler enrages the fans by coming out on TV and telling the announcer that he refuses to
wrestle on television because he's too good to lower himself by wrestling someone on TV; if the fans want to see him,
they're going to have to come to the arena.

Trump could tweak this in one of his TruthSocial tweets like: "The weak American people want me to debate on TV where I
will have my words twisted by the Biased Socialist Media and the RINOs like Traitor Nikki Haley and Ronda Santis! I, the
Most Persecuted Former President ever, need the True Patriots to come to my rallies where they will hear the MAGA truth!"

I seriously doubt many voters are going to pick a candidate who appears to be afraid to participate in the primary debates.

I think at least one of the two major party nominees will participate in exactly zero party primary debates and perhaps both.

Trump always seems to be on the attack, he would never avoid a debate, I understand that there will not be any debates for Biden apparently his handlers do not want to risk more embarrassing moments on film so once again he will remain in the basement and depend on the liberal media to carry the ball.

Yes the debates are "won" by mainly shouting down your opponent, which Trump excels at. Good riddance to the "debates".

Gaffe master Biden should never debate.

If you can skip the debates and still win the nomination, and Trump can, then why bother to debate?
He can probably use all his campaign cash to pay for this multitude of law firms, and just tweet and DJ at Mar A Largo and still win.

Yes, while Trump does always seem to be on the attack, he would definitely avoid a debate because the opponent can attack back. He doesn't need the publicity or exposure

You seem to forget about the time Trump avoided debating in the primaries by not allowing anyone else to run in 2020. Mr Trump depended on foxnews to carry his ball lol.

And the GOP ran with the 2016 platform in ‘20, too.
