We had an interesting and thought provoking question posed to us this afternoon on our Parish Chat Thread
<< I am still debating whether we eat fish or not next week >>

I did respond stating that I had always been taught [ and this BTW, was whilst I was still in the UGCC ] that fish was meat [ because it had a spine and bones]

There have been a couple of very lighthearted responses but the original poster has just added this to the thread https://orthochristian.com/68722.html and the comment that clearly Fr Epiphanius, who was a canonist knows best.

We can't refer this to our Priest at present as he is away in Thessaloniki [ a Monastic Tonsuring and Diaconate Ordination].

Any comments or is this a difference between Greek and Russian Practice ?

I suspect that "seafood" was intended where "fish" was written, meaning all the spineless varieties such as shellfish, calamari and octopus.

Does anyone know where the text translated by John Sanidopoulos was taken from? Which one of Elder Epiphanius books was it written?

I can't speak to Russian or Greek, but the Serbian, yes. Father yesterday talked about fish having a spine, so they are meat. However, due to dietary needs and the particulars of some folks' needs, he frequently allows fish for some. He's allowed it for me some years. It depends on the situation, but, uh, how should I say this delicately?----shrimp....well, can sail through Gurney at warp factor 9 and we don't always agree! LOL Fish doesn't bother me at all. Shrimp, sometimes....it ain't pretty ^_^
