I listened to the scanner last night, out of both curiosity and habit. In my younger days I'd be subject to be called in to work in the aftermath.

Outbreaks like these aren't uncommon. I'm not downplaying them, but they happen. Naturally was thinking about other outbreaks this morning.

As to your vacation, it depends on when and where and how you intend to get there. Have found myself caught in a tornado clean-up zone before with traffic delays. But the thing about tornados is that while they're destructive and can have long paths, their width is relatively narrow. It's not like the widespread devastation in the aftermath of a tornado.

This is scary. I don't get tornados where I live. But it makes me afraid to go on vocation, which I was planning on doing.
Figure your odds.
Your chance to die falling down stairs
or in bathtub accident are what to worry about.

The odds of that are INCOMPARABLY higher than dying from a COVID vaccination and yet folks absolutely went insane when suggesting the vaccination was safe.

There concept of "probability of fatality" became inherently meaningless to people at some point.

I have never seen a tornado. If I did, I would be frozen in fear.

It is a bit early to be calculating whether the odds of a particular individual dying from a vaccine are greater or lesser than from a tornado. The vaccine just showed up fairly recently in that regard, so any as yet unknown long-term effects, should any come to light, would not be in the calculation yet. Not that I am expecting any such effects but such things have happened in the past with other treatments and drugs so we cannot completely ignore the possibility. My thought is that it would be extremely small but until the data for multiple years come in, we can't say with certainty what the odds are and therefore can't say which odds are longer. The odds of a child dying of Covid seem to be extremely small from what we have so far seen but there are people that want all children to be vaccinated for Covid with a vaccine specifically designed to combat the strains that have so far not been a problem for children. I won't say they went insane, but they seem to have lost the ability to reason correctly from a fear of Covid that is beyond reasonable. I am forced to agree that very large swaths of the populace have completely abandoned the concept of "probability of fatality" on both sides of this issue. This also seems to be a trend which is not limited to fear of vaccines or Covid btw but from a general excess of fear of any number of unlikely things that might cause them to die or the planet to cease to exist. When people act solely out of fear, they usually make poor decisions.

All tornadoes are destructive, but not all are the huge monsters commonly associated with tornadoes. Both tornados I've actually seen were rope-like, and both were a few miles away. I remember a massive funnel once, but it didn't touch down. Have seen a rotating wall cloud once. I would classify these as "not fun" moments, just like when we had to take cover at home and school. And yes, when I was young I feared them. But the danger is along the actual path, which is relatively narrow, even for the mile-wide monsters. What you do is pray and take what cover that you can.

FWIW, the worst weather danger I've been in was likely when I had to drive a cab-less tractor across the top of a field in a thunderstorm. Definitely a not-fun moment.

If you're really worried, you can look up the incidents of violent weather per month. Without checking, I assume the worst for tornadoes would be the months associated with hurricanes. As someone once said:

For big whorls have little whorls
That feed on their velocity.
And little whorls have lesser whorls
And so on to viscosity.

Okay, I'm going to call "Time" here. The freak-out part was that the vaccines were still classified as experimental. I decided to become vaccinated from looking at the incidents of deaths from COVID-19 in my demographic grouped by vaccinated and unvaccinated. Vaccination increased my odds tremendously.

Now thats scary. I'm rather afraid of the thunderstorms in the high mountains around here (like everything from tree line up to 14,000 ft). Once we were hiking and had just gotten off the ridges when the storms hit. Lighting killed a guy a few miles away from us. We heard that strike.

When looking at photos of tornado damage, take note of the age of the trees uprooted and buildings destroyed. This helps illustrate how infrequently they will hit an area.

while i generally agree with the rest of your post, this vaccines has been given 12.7 BILLION times.
It is not early.

It is irrational to think a vaccine can kill you multiple months/years down the road

Isn't this the wrong time of year for tornadoes? My grandmother, who lived in the Texas panhandle, told me that she disliked the spring season because of the tornadoes.

Winter is off season for them as the conditions that spawn them are typically absent but they are not unheard of.
