In her closing message, Liz Cheney made it clear that her focus remains squarely on Trump: "The lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen is insidious. It preys on those who love their country. It is a door Donald Trump opened to manipulate Americans to abandon their principles, to sacrifice their freedom, to justify violence, to ignore the rulings of our courts and the rule of law."

Cheney was a good conservative, that is what she believed, however in the heat of battle she turned tail and ran. Then to make herself appear respectable in her own eyes she pretends it was for noble principles. In truth she was a backstabbing coward and that is why they voted her out. She could not even run for dogcatcher.
She stood firm against Trump’s lies. That is not running away and that is not cowardice.

She would have to be a complete idiot, asleep for the past 6 years and currently in a coma with no signs of brain activity to not see it would be extremely unpopular amongst her voter base to expressly run on a platform of standing up to the de facto and unquestionable leader of her own party.

I think a little more highly of her than to think she's that colossally unaware of her position and the effect it would have.
Maybe. But we still haven't found those weapons of mass destruction her father said were in Iraq so stranger things have happened.

You're right. But we have found the weapons of thread distraction. ^_^

I'm sure it would be brought up if she was a Trump supporting MAGA candidate.
Thankfully no one on the right has ever run a campaign on attacking the character of the direct relatives of their opponent.

On the left either,.... oh wait
That’s what you just said they would do. I agree they likely would bring that up. Is it fair? No. Is that politics? You betcha. Does it have anything to do with this thread? Not really.

How was her reputation with liberals before then?

I have no idea, probably close to what it is now. I don't see her being in any smiling photos with Democrats like the famous Clinton Trump pictures.

Again, with her free-time, (come January ‘23) she could probably find work with fellow Republican Merrick Garland, working on important things?

Like getting the Keystone pipeline back on line?

This line of discussion reminds of the total miserableness of recent R presidents. Its like you either get:

a. colossal useless war built on lies, or
b. a guy who would sink the republic to further his own prospects.

Its not like the D alternatives have been objectively terrific. But by comparison just muddling though makes them look golden. Even considering that idiotic Clinton-intern thing.

....and after Jan 6th, I thought the consensus was the GOP would find better candidates for 2024. Yet, here we are....a party that as I write this is actively voting for and nominating election deniers (at all levels) to represent their party.
