Hi All, this should be very simple.
Hamartiology is the study of sin. However, no one can study what sin is from the bible without first defining what sin is from the scriptures. So before we can study about sin we must make sure we understand how the bible defines what sin is. So how does the bible or the scriptures define sin?
According to the scriptures, sin is defined in the scriptures as breaking anyone of Gods' laws including Gods' 10 commandments and unbelief that is not believing and following what Gods' Word says when God gives us a knowledge of the truth from the scriptures. Let's look at how the scriptures define what sin is so that we can correctly divide the word of truth and let the bible interpret the bible or Gods' Word interpret itself so we do not have a misunderstanding as to what sin is in Gods' eyes.
1. Sin is defined in the scriptures as breaking God's law...
2. All unbelief or not believing and following what Gods' Word says is sin
3. Breaking anyone of Gods 10 commandments is transgressing the law which is sin
5. God's commandment gives us a knowledge of right doing when they are obeyed
6. When are we held accountable to God for sin defined as breaking God's law and unbelief?
............
From the scriptures provided above we can see that sin is defined in the scriptures as breaking anyone of God's 10 commandments and his laws and not believing and following His Word once God gives us a knowledge of the truth from the scriptures.

1. Sin is defined in the scriptures as breaking God's law...
- 1 John 3:4 [4], Whoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
2. All unbelief or not believing and following what Gods' Word says is sin
- Romans 14:23 ... whatsoever is not of faith is sin
- Romans 6:23 the wages of sin is death..
- John 3:36, He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God stays on him.
- Hebrews 3: 17-19 [17], But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? [18], And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? [19], So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
3. Breaking anyone of Gods 10 commandments is transgressing the law which is sin
- James 2:10-11 [10], For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [11], For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law.
4. God's 10 commandments give us a knowledge of what sin is when we break them- Romans 7:7, What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. No, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, thou shalt not covet.
- Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
5. God's commandment gives us a knowledge of right doing when they are obeyed
- Psalms 119:172, My tongue shall speak of your word: for all your commandments are righteousness.
6. When are we held accountable to God for sin defined as breaking God's law and unbelief?
- James 4:17 ... to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
- Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31 [30], And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent: [31], Because he has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.
- Hebrews 10:26-27 [26], For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, [27], But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
