The Telegraph‘s Tim Stanley, along with colleague Henry Samuel, scored quite a scoop: he reveals a secret plan to renovate — that is, wreckovate — Notre-Dame de Paris, and turn it into a Gothic Epcot Center.

Down comes all the medieval stuff, including stained glass, and up goes abstract modern art. They also plan to project words in light onto the walls of the chapels.

I too spoke to a French expert about this, and the expert told me that the parts of the cathedral set to undergo the radical change are parts that survived the fire! That is, the Archbishop and his team plan to destroy parts of Notre-Dame that came through the fire intact. The fire is a pretext for modernization.

Please stop. The project has critics. A historical cathedral does not need to be turned into a theme park. It has nothing to do with so-called conservatism or silly graphs about news sources you do not like. This is posted in the Catholic forum as a matter of interest for Catholics.

No surprise here, really. We're talking twentyfirst century France here. No national piety left, only transgenderism, homoliberalism and islamophilia. Why should they not take advantage of the Notre Dame fire in their mission to deform society? Wouldnt it have been quite inconsistent to actually rebuild the cathredal in accordance with
the original intent of the original workers and arcitects?

That’s what historians do. Restore with the original intent in mind. If I was a donor, I’d want my money back.

The French government is overseeing the cathedral’s structural restoration and conservation, but the cathedral authorities are responsible for its interior renewal.

The interior makeover of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris presents us with some very disturbing questions. Everybody will remember the fire in April of 2019 which severely damaged one of the best-known churches in Christendom, and the outpouring of gifts from rich and famous people around the world to aid in its restoration. The restoration of the exterior is proceeding under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture; but the interior renovations are in the hands of the Archdiocese of Paris.
