I worked at a wine shop.

I come from a family that have been growing wine for centuries in the region of Baden in Germany.
But for a long time i did not know much about the wines of the world - only about the work in the vinyards. It was not before the age of 24 that I gradually knew more about other wines.

Btw: Myself I am not a wine grower, but many of my relatives are.

That’s wonderful! I want the same. A small winery. Do you still work there?

No, as I said, I am not a wine grower any more.
I just enjoy drinking wine, but I have no vinyard of my own.

The wines that are grown by my relatives are mostly:
Riesling, Pinot noir (Spätburgunder), Müller-Thurgau (Rivaner), Pinot blanc (Weißburgunder) and Regent, a relatively new grape variety.

I buy what I like and worry less about pairings.

This is me as well.

I only like the one wine, everything else is way too bitter for me. So, that is what I buy because it's the only one that I like.

So you will know about the wines of the world. :)

I have a lot to learn! We were the highest grossing store and the smallest. But the most experienced. We had the oldest employee. He was 80 and his knowledge was legendary. He outsold everyone in the company and had clients around the world. I spent a lot time with him and sought his opinion often.

The others had 15 years or more in the industry. We had the best cheesemonger too. He taught me a lot. We had a kitchen and frequently cooked. We’d dine family style. Everyone was a foodie. We had great palates and carried the best products.

It was a rare experience and my favorite job.

It’s nice to meet other wine lovers.

Do you prefer something sweeter?

Much sweeter, yes. That is why I like Roscato as it's very very sweet and reminds me of a wine cooler. Oh, and I like Verdi Spumante which is very cheap... lol.

Ice wine, Tokai, Sauternes, Demi-sec and Doux champagnes, red vermouth, fruit liqueurs (Mathilde is good).

Thank you for the suggestions. I am actually happy with what I like and even though I have those favorites, I drink alcohol maybe twice to three times a year. I have had wine coolers in my fridge for three months now and haven't touched one.

Right now I cannot drink alcohol even if I wanted to. Have to have surgery on Thursday to have my gall bladder removed and alcohol is on the no consumption list for a little while.

You’re welcome. Keep them nonetheless. You may want to try something different. At least you’ll have something to go on.

I’m sorry to hear about the surgery and will pray for a speedy recovery. Have you posted a thread on the Prayer Wall?

I know neither - can you explain? :)

Well I never knew what a Tom Collins was but I enjoyed it. I found this :

The Tom Collins is a Collins cocktail made from gin, lemon juice, sugar, and carbonated water. First memorialized in writing in 1876 by Jerry Thomas, "the father of American mixology", this "gin and sparkling lemonade" drink is typically served in a Collins glass over ice. A "Collins mix" can be bought premixed at stores and enjoyed alone (like a soft drink) or with gin.

Tom Collins - Wikipedia

The one I had was dark brown but the one online is clear.

and the Banana Marquita was a Marquita with Banana flavor I think. I had both a long time ago :)
