The church should be holding the reins and leading the charge against racism. For some reason the church is determined to shut eyes and plug ears on the issue. No. Worse, the church is actively attacking those who work to combat racism.

Last I looked, the church was called to preach the Gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead and preach liberty to those held captive.

Can you point to a scripture verse that commands the church should lead the charge against racism?

Thank you.

Maybe it is a good idea to write sarcasm/ or something like that after such a post. I used to think that those people who did so were doing something unnecessary, but perhaps it isn't.

Nothing sarcastic about it. There were Christians declaring that Obama was the antichrist.

Oh, him...the guy who prides himself on being a reader of Mao, Marx, and Lenin. He thinks they know what is it that caused people to attack the Capitol Building.

He said he wants to know--he did not presume he already knew. If you believe you're more accomplished, you should tell him.

You mean no offense, and yet that's one of the most offensive comments I've seen on the forum thus far.
You obviously haven't been here very long.

Were you around in 1941?

My parents never lost their accent and all you have to do is use your eyes to see they were not white. Same with me.

In America, you're white.

It's not the task of the Church to fix the world, but it is the task of the Church to eliminate the world's social distinctions within the Body of Christ.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3

Oh, him...the guy who prides himself on being a reader of Mao, Marx, and Lenin.
Why shouldn't he be proud of having read works that have had a massive impact on the world over the past century? Especially as a military man who may well be tasked with fighting against those who ascribe to the views expressed in those works.
He thinks they know what is it that caused people to attack the Capitol Building.
Show me where he said that. I'll wait.

How did they do it? did they do it through protesting? Pointing out the problem? Or by preaching the Gospel of peace.

It doesn't appear you actually read what I wrote, as I asserted that it was not the task of the Church to fix the world, but it is the task of the Church to eliminate the world's social distinctions within the Body of Christ.

If you did, then the early Church most explicitly did point out the problem of bigotry within the Body of Christ:

When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray. -- Galatians 2

yep. That is IN the church.

what did they do OUTSIDE the church?

understanding there was bigotry and hatred all around them.

I'm sorry. It's your responsiblity to educate yourself. You only need to dip into the articles briefly to find plenty of evidence.

https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/at-the-edge/2015/05/06/institutional-racism-is-our-way-of-life

The situation is much worse in America.
I glanced over your article and it appears to be one making the same tired arguments that have been refuted countless times over and over. They look at discrepancies between black vs white and immediately blame that discrepancy on institutional racism, rather than looking deeper at possible other factors.
Black children more likely to get in trouble at school, more likely to drop out of school, more likely to go to jail, and receive harsher sentences, etc. etc. so it must be institutional racism.
What about culture? What about single motherhood? What about poverty? Poor people get harsher sentences because they can't afford better lawyers, boys raised by Single mothers are more likely to get in trouble at school, drop out or school, more likely to go to prison as adults, and more likely to be impoverished. Going by this logic, you would blame sexism because men are more likely to go to prison, and receive harsher sentences than women.
Why do you suppose black people from the diaspora; (Black people from Africa, Caribbean's, etc) Why do you suppose when they migrate to the US they out preform native blacks?
Study: Black Immigrants Earn More than U.S.-Born Blacks
Nigerians even out perform native whites! How come institutional racism doesn’t seem to hold them back like it does native blacks? Do you suppose culture might have something to do with it? Do you suppose their culture of education like Asians who also out perform native whites might have something to do with it?

No one is saying that ONLY whites can be racist.

Actually that's incorrect.

Only white people can be racist: Inside Global Affairs' anti-racism course materials | National Post

"In a “Myths and Facts” section opening the document, it is called a myth that non-white people are capable of racism, which is defined as exclusively being the domain of white people. Non-white people can express “racial prejudice,” to be sure (the example provided is “white people can’t dance”) but this doesn’t qualify as racism because of the “systemic relationship to power.” “In Canada, white people hold this cultural power due to Eurocentric modes of thinking, rooted in colonialism, that continue to reproduce and privilege whiteness,” it reads."

'Myth #1 Reverse racism exists': New Anti-Racism training document from Government of Canada takes a different approach

"One of the myths addressed in the training material states: “Myth #1 Reverse racism exists, BIPOC can be racists towards white people.” Some critics took issue with the point that it implies if you aren’t white, then you can’t be racist.

Hogarth says while racist ideologies can be held by anyone regardless of colour, this is a matter of dividing words, since racism is associated with power."

In other words, people of any color can hold racist ideologies but since racism is associated with power and white people have the power therefore only whites can be racist.

I did think that healing the world was the main goal of the church besides saving souls.

Thank you.

“Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute,” (Psalm 82:3).

“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widow’s cause,” (Isaiah 1:17).

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).

In an ideal world, the church would eliminate racism in its own ranks. The church is continuous with the world, so when its members head out into the world they bring their renewed consciousness to bear in their social interactions. They become lights in the world. To 'lead the charge' the church simply needs to address its own internal issues and the rest will follow. I can't really advocate for churches lobbying and getting enmeshed in politics. We are called to be 'unstained' and that level of involvement in politics usually leads to unholy unions between church and state

Im curious, where were all the racial threads before George Floyd? How many people here heard of BLM before the George Floyd tragedy? From what I saw in my everyday life racism was dead until the George Floyd incident. It seems like after that tragic event people are going crazy about it.
You only heard it then.
George Floyd's death undoubtedly caught the attention of the American public.

Why ???

Perhaps because the video was so compelling ... Americans couldn't look away.

It wasn't that things like this hadn't happened before. It was somewhat of a perfect storm. The country was in a place ... to be moved by the video as it was publicized ...

Fact...I have been called an "uppity n-word" because I talked back or had an opposite opinion from white democrats because I opposed their policies. Nothing has changed.
You aren't the first, or likely, the last ... to be so defamed ...
