So I've been reading a lot over the last few years about what people think the "Will of the Father" in Matthew 7:21-23 could be referring to. I've seen, read, and heard many different inferences about what Christ could be talking about. I've heard many different things like "Works salvationists" "those who don't fully trust Christ" and MANY other inferences about what the will of the Father could be. Rarely if ever do I see people mention what Christ had actually said himself about the topic. That is found in John 6:37-40:
37 All those that the Father gives to me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them all up on on the last day. 40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day.
So this has got me thinking. Why is it people don't mention Jesus's own super comforting words for THE most scary passage in the Bible? Well the answer is simple, because of human pride and because Jesus taught Election in his words (and in 99.9% of the words he spoke that was recorded in the Bible but bear with me) and people do not like the idea of Election. In the places where ive seen John 6 used they always only use verse 40 as if it means all who believe and that comforts people I suppose.. Don't get me wrong, it does. But all who believe does not mean that salvation spreads to the entire world and those who make a one time confession of Christ count in Christ's promise.
How people can twist and ignore doctrines CLEARLY taught all over the Bible I have no clue. I could give my opinion using and not twisting scripture but then this thread would be deleted and I would be temporarily banned. Instead I'm just leaving it up to discussion.
After all this being said this is not a thread of condemnation but merely a thread of open discussion. I personally do believe that while Election is true God did promise salvation to a large number of people larger than the stars in the sky. When John saw the saved in heaven he didn't see a small group of people, he saw a large multitude. When the promise was given to Abraham God promised a number bigger than the stars too.
So why Election is so devastating to human pride I have no clue when such a large group of people are elect and scripture proves that. *shrug*
