So they are late to the party, but you had to go back a year to find that article?

Lol...I did see more current ones but that was my favorite.

Of course, it does point out the hypocrisy -- no comment about the debt or hyperinflation while Trump was President (such as when this article was written); suddenly these two only become issues when a Democrat takes the White House.

Well it wasn't until the end of 2020 till we had any real idea how much inflation there would be, who would be president, what his plan would be.

This president's plan is to print his way out of debt by printing his way into debt.

And don't bother me with any hypocrisy nonsense...I gave plenty of concern for small businesses that were dying off, or killed off, during 2020 and the lasting effect it would have.

Actually, yes, and we do. It's called Easy money. And it does cause inflation but not necessarily "wild" or hyper-inflation. And we all already know that inflation has bottomed out so it will rise as easy money is reduced.

Oh it's bottomed out...

he reiterated that inflation will not go crazy although it's expected to go up.

And just a second ago you said it bottomed out lol.

So how are you feeling about the possibility of 200% now?

Glad we agree you're wrong about inflation going up.

The Fed has tried and fail to reach the target inflation rate averaging 2%. For the past several years, the rate has been too low.

The Fed would be fine with a rate of 4% or so in these time of labor shortages and supply chain issues.

What labor shortages are you referring to?

Go for it, Mitch! I think you should sit and pout and nurse your hurt feelings while Biden gets a popular bill like infrastructure done. The let's see how 2022 goes for your party.

tens of thousands of businesses having unfilled openings. They just can't find workers.
When you get paid more to stay at home, why work?

I agree.

States need to manage their employment insurance better. Folks who have worked for fast food restaurants should not be receiving unemployment payments when jobs are available. This is also the case in the restaurant industry generally. That being said, states should also pay increases in the state minimum wage. Even FL has a minimum wage that is increasing to $15 over the next 5 years.

It turns out that when people aren't desperate for survival, they are more discerning with how they sale their labor.
Let's be clear.

Let us say that you earn $10/hour ($400 per week) at a restaurant or fast food joint.

Your unemployment insurance payment is only $200. However, with the government bump-up of $300 per week, you now can stay home and "earn" $500 per week ($12.50 per hour).

Your boss calls and says that he wants you back at a 10% pay increase to $440 a week.

WHAT DO YOU TELL THE BOSS?

Almost anyone will say "see you in September".

Precisely -- so your boss is going to have to make a better offer than 10%.

Simple solution.

Funny, I’m desperate for survival. I have been since I was 18 and my parents stopped supporting me. When you need money, you don’t get to be discerning.

Where my sons work, they aren’t hiring people unless they are coming from a different company. They seem to think that those who have sitting around for months collecting unemployment are lazy, and won’t stick around.

Would 50% work? $600 to work, $500 to stay home?

Look for fast food restaurants to continue to have lots of coupons for their takeout customers and keep lobbies closed. Also, look for the takeout window phone calls to be answered in Utah.

Agreed.

But this is a state issue.

The federal government has rightly given $300 extra for those who QUALIFY for unemployment. It is up to the states to decide who qualifies. There are lots of folks whose jobs are still not available, or who cannot work until schools are open.

Sounds like good math to me.

Well, that's Utah -- here in New Jersey, the fast food restaurants are all fully staffed.
No labor problems here.

Do away with unemployment altogether, then?
Not necessarily. But right now folks are being propped up that can work. And the jobs are out there.
