I used to attend an Assembly of God church some 30 years ago. We sang an upbeat song based on Psalm 24, "Lift up your head oh ye gates". Any of you know this song? All the ones I've found on YouTube are slower paced songs. I really liked the version we sang.

Great song. Great words from scripture. 'Who is the King of Glory? The Lord Mighty in battle!'

Quietbloke,

Since you've probably sung the song more recently than I have, do you think the song is about Jesus when He was on earth or is it about a future time when He returns?

Thanks.

As far as I can see it is a Messianic Psalm prophesying of the Lord's second coming in triumph.

Hi 'Swainkas'. This Psalm is also speaking to me prophetically of his death, resurrection and ascension and of His coming into our life!

quietbloke,

Thanks for that last reply. Yes, I think when David penned that Psalm he saw something grand - God Almighty coming through the gate(s) of Jerusalem, not just one gate. Jesus, who was and is God Almighty, would have walked through several if not all of the nine gates that allowed entrance into Jerusalem at His time. The Sea of Galilee and all the cities that Jesus visited around it are to the north of Jerusalem, so in returning to Jerusalem from them He would most likely have entered through one of the three northern gates. The Mount of Olives is to the east, so His many visits there, He would have used the Eastern/golden gate. Bethlehem is to the south of Jerusalem, so coming from there He would have used one of the southern gates. So though this passage could clearly be referring to His coming again, it definitely had its fulfillment during His 1st advent.

I know the classical version only. Oh, and the one from Handel's Messiah. They are fine by me.

Good scripture..

'All Hail King Jesus - Lift Up your Heads Medley.'
- My favorite.
- From Integrity Music.
It is on YouTube..
---
Lift up your heads, to the coming King.
Bow before Him and adore Him, sing..

Blessings,

Thanks for the info. Good song, but not the one I was hunting for.
