Amos was a shepherd in Judah whom God called to preach to the northern kingdom of Israel. They were deep into idolatry. God's sign to me is what he has taught me through his Word and his gift of experiences with him that have strengthened my faith.

Josephus confirms above the understanding of the Jews of his time, who knew that Daniel had predicted the events of 167 BC, by Antiochus Epiphanes.
Josephus confirms it as a historical fact.


John 10:22 is a reference to the celebration of Hanukkah each year by the Jews of Jesus time.


The Book of Matthew was addressed mainly to a Jewish audience. Jesus was telling the Jews of His time that something similar to 167 BC would happen during 70 AD. Not only did Antiochus desecrate the temple, but he also attacked the city killing thousands of Jews and stopped the temple sacrifices. The temple sacrifices would also stop in 70 AD, due to the destruction of the temple. Based on John 10:22, the Jews were well aware of this historical fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy. Luke’s Gospel was written to more of a Gentile audience, so he spelled it out for them.


Matthew 24:15-16 and Luke 21:20-21 are clearly parallel accounts, because we have the same reference to flee in the second verse in each Gospel.

When did the Jews come back out of captivity? They were in the nations for 2000 years. That was the long term future of the Jews, and Israel being in exile.

Now that they are back in the land. The events of Matthew 24:15-30 will take place.

You have part of the Olivet discourse right. The near term future of the Jews and Israel. But you are not recognizing the long term future of the Jews and Israel begun in Luke 21:24. And the period of 2000 years that the Gentiles were in control and occupying Jerusalem.

Well you make the same mistake most immature students of eschatology make.

1. The disciples asked Jesus three seperate questions!
a. When will the temple be destroyed
b. what will be the sign of the end of the age
c. what will be the sign of your coming!

2. Titus had ordered his troops NOT to destroy the temple! The Temple fire was doen by greedy soldiers when they saw the gold.

3. Titus did not stand in the holy of holies- nor did he even enter the temple!

Matthew 24 and Luke 21 are not parallel accounts. Fleeing is the only sameness, but teh sign to flee are totally different!

Matthew 24:

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand

16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

The sign to flee in Matthew is the AoD stand in the Holy Place! It is then said that there will be such tribulation as never been seen before! 70AD was horrendous but not thte worst tribulation ever experienced by Israel or the World!

This has not happened. Israel believers did not flee to the mountains in the pause between 66 and 70 AD they fled to Pella, right across the Jordan!



Now let us look at Luke!

Luke 21:

20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.


The sign to flee is Jerusalem circled by armies!

It is a warning that its destruction has come- the judgment of MAtt. 12 for the unpardonable sin upon this generation! These are days of vengeance and great distress not of great tribulation as has never happened in the world before nor ever shall be after!

Then comes a condition- Jeruslaem will be under gentile control untitl the time of teh Gentiles is fulfilled. This hasn't happened yet either so this also needs to be fulfilled- where Jerusalem is free of gentile control (temnple mount is under muslim rule and the old quarter is muslim)

Just because people are told to flee in both events. The events are written in such a way as to let the reader know they are different events if read in a normal way!

Mostly true- but that is not the cause of the return of Jesus! Israel sometime soon will gain full control of Temple Mount and rebuild the temple. The Gog/Magog war will take place. Sometime between now and the mid point of teh tribulation period, Israel will reinstitute the sacrificial system (not that God accpets those sacrifices).
