"The purpose of government, Locke wrote, is to secure and protect the God-given inalienable natural rights of the people. For their part, the people must obey the laws of their rulers. Thus, a sort of contract exists between the rulers and the ruled. But, Locke concluded, if a government persecutes its people with "a long train of abuses" over an extended period, the people have the right to resist that government, alter or abolish it, and create a new political system."

Great quote. There’s something of the flavor of the it in 1 Kings 12:18, when the people of Israel killed Rehoboam's taskmaster. Rehoboam crossed the line of oppression and the summary execution of Adoram got him sorted real quick. Only one ended up dying in that "revolution".

Just seen how heavily armed a lotnof the protesters were on the news!

Only in America!

Very sad indeed to see all those people with so much fire power amongst them. Its a totally different world in the USA. A desire to own and carry such lethal weapons.

Ah....one of the privileged class...
Psh... Hardly. But then, I guess not everyone can live in nice safe, non-war zone places like So Cal. I feel for the rest of you who apparently need AR-15s to buy groceries or take your kids to soccer practice.

you realize that just means you have more of the kind of stuff they want, right?
Oh if only that we’re true.

Is that what you think of them? But the discussion was only about whether the police were wise to take security precautions.
No, I think they are probably some of the finest people you could hope to meet, overall.

And not hateful at all.

What is sad about wanting to be able to defend your self and others?

No, you don’t. You have a right to fight to overturn those laws via the courts, but you don’t have a right to just up and decide for yourself what is and isn’t constitutional.

Is the Bill of Rights now scripture? I don’t care if it says God granted you a pound of cheese per day, it isn’t correct. The founders can think that people should have certain rights, and that’s fine. But those rights don’t come from God; they come from us. We decide what our rights are.

Yes we do. Now, could we get arrested for it? Sure. And there will be court cases about it too. Do you believe that those that disobey the laws in sanctuary cities have a right to do that, or should they obey the laws? What about those crossing the borders illegally, should they be allowed to do that or should they be arrested and tossed in jail for it, whether or not they have children?

What laws did you have in mind? They already have to obey the laws of the city and state in which they live.

No, they should just be deported. The costs and delays of a criminal trial and incarceration aren't worth it. After all, we're not laying criminal charges on visa overstays when we catch them, we just deport them. Why should pedestrians be any different?

Jefferson adopted John Locke's theory of natural rights to provide a reason for revolution and it shaped our constitution.

Constitutional Rights Foundation

our natural rights have long been under attack in this country, and we fight and fight and fight these issues into the ground. Now, a new class of people has risen up and have determined for themselves that they will, in fact act to alienate people of their rights.

We aren't California dwellers where we will accept our rights being attacked without end meekly handing all over to the tyrants, they will either leave us in peace or they will fight us. The choice is always theirs, but we, the people are the last line of defense against tyranny, and it is our responsibility to stand on this hill, before we find ourselves unarmed and unable to fight those who come next.

I understand the background of the philosophy. Personally, I think it’s nonsense, but I appreciate that others disagree. Either way, you can think these are “natural” rights all you want, but the fact remains that there is absolutely zero in the Christian Bible that says *anything* about God granting us these sorts of rights. If you’re a Christian and believe in Christian doctrine, then these rights do not, in any way shape or form, come from God. To claim otherwise is to commit heresy.

Which they certainly were. After all, a few undesirables with bad intent were already intercepted bu thr feds en route to the rally, and who knows what would've happened if they hadn't been?

It's reasonable for the local police to ask: what if they weren't the only ones?

So your not in favor of arresting those who disobey gun laws either? After all it could be pretty costly.

Snotty non-sequitur. Well played.

Illegal border crossers are not any more dangerous than visa overstayers. The only reason I can see that you want to subject one kind of illegal alien to criminal prosecution in addition to deportation but not the other is that the illegal border crossers are more likely to be poor, brown and Roman Catholic than the visa overstays.

Automatic? Lol, you have no clue. Should the criminals have more firepower than the law abiding citizen?

Should government have more firepower than the law abiding citizens ?

Why are the heavy machineguns restricted, anti-tank weapons, stingers ? Stuff you could actually use against "tyrannical government" ?

Nobody seems to feel worried about that although it is clearly in violation of second amandment.
So basically it is not that you are allowed to arm yourself however you want just where the line is drawn.

Would have been great if the second amandment had been written that every citizen has the right to bear musket.

That would have made some interesting product development through centuries.
