Tactically speaking, Democrats are trying to make the next election about President Trump, whom they've made into the boogeyman for political purposes. But make no mistake: The future of this country isn't about one man. It's about freedom.

For the first time in my life, I actually fear for our country. We are so close to the installation of an authoritarian regime...yet the average person seems either disinterested or, if he is interested in such things, he's been successfully distracted by how the President chooses his words or some other such triviality.

Adriana Cohen: : A Democratic president would make big changes your life – For the worse

This includes what car we drive, every doctor we see, what temperature we set our thermostats to and even what food we eat. These are just a few areas of our lives that will be affected if any Democrat is elected president. They will take a sledgehammer to consumer choice and innumerable liberties Americans currently enjoy, placing many of those decisions in the hands of Washington elites and bureaucrats who "know better."

I think that it funny how right wingers accuse the Democrats of doing the very thing that they, themselves, are actually doing.

"That's a Trojan horse distracting voters from what election 2020 is really about — power — and the left's(right's) insatiable hunger to expand government control into virtually every aspect of our lives.

All one has to do is substitute right into their claim to show what is going on. They make their base fear that the Democrats are doing what Republicans have done for years, "expand government". The right blows every issue out of proportion to scare their base because people just don't like change, until it comes and change is better.

The right claimed that the Democrats were starting "death panels" to kill the elderly with Obamacare but after they tried it, they liked it.

Democrats don't want to take your guns away from you so that you can't protect yourself or your family. They want to take the guns out of the hands of the people that want to hurt your family. The NRA and Republicans want to protect the gun rights of terrorists, murderers, armed robbers, crazy people, etc... Why? So they can scare you.

Democrats won't "take a sledgehammer to consumer choice and innumerable liberties". They want to protect your consumer rights so that you can be protected from slick right wing shysters who want to con you into buying what you don't need.

Democrats didn't "made into the boogeyman, speaking of Trump. He is the boogeyman who thinks that it's okay to walk up and grab a woman's genitals, or walk into the dressing rooms of women, who include underage girls, at his beauty pageants, because "he can".

The right has used fear to control a large segment of the American public. Fear flamed by their ignorance because they are trapped by watching right wing news pundits who have no shame and lie so that they can because "what election 2020 is really about — power — and the right's insatiable hunger to expand government control into virtually every aspect of our lives".

Hi Ted
Been to California lately?
Thanks to the Democrats
our gas, food and taxes
are sky high.

Had a tall good looking girl friend
many years ago that would say
Wake Up And Smell The Coffee.
M

Hi MM,

You could be right. I'm not particularly familiar with CA governance. However, there do seem to be a lot of people who are perfectly ok to put up with it. Yourself included.

I was in CA visiting my mother and sister just last year. For me, I'm not particularly impressed with anything that CA has to offer. I'm not one impressed by all the overcrowding and I find the beaches in Florida and along the Gulf coast to be much nicer as far as enjoying them. I honestly can't understand why people are so enamored with CA. I've lived on the east coast for all of my life and I find it to be much better, overall, than CA.

However, I freely admit that I've only been to CA for short visits and likely don't have any experience with what it's really like to live there.

My sister is in the San Leandro area and she is having to install a $19,000 battery pack just to have consistent electric service. I wouldn't put up with that for a moment. She keeps telling me that she just can't make the money that she makes anywhere else (she's a union bricklayer). I keep telling her that she doesn't need the money that she makes anywhere else. But, she likes it and wouldn't consider moving anywhere else.

Me, I've lived in several states and I have no problem getting up and moving if I don't like a particular area. I've lived in W. Virginia, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. You just sell your house and move. Right now, I pay practically nothing in state taxes and gas is half of what it is in CA. My standard of living is better, I think, than my sister's.

God bless,
in Christ, ted

A democratic president would make big changes (freedoms enjoyed)

The Republicans resurrect their leftist attack on personal freedoms routine as a diversion and scare tactic when they can no longer debate the issues based on the facts!

These are the same people who promised a better healthcare system and then attempted to repeal Obamacare without providing a viable alternative - leaving millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions without affordable insurance to fend for themselves.

Even if Trump manages to win next year, you're only delaying the next Democrat administration by 4 years.

Hi albion,

They have sound values but seem to think nothing of importance will ever change. Maybe a law here or there will be passed or repealed, but that's all...and of course they think all politicians are corrupt, so it's just a "given" that one party will be in power for awhile and then the other one, and nothing really can change.

Yes, and depending on what kind of changes one is hoping for, 'they' could be right. Radically changing governments has rarely worked out particularly well for the generation living through those times. I can certainly fully understand why, given this present administration, more and more people would think that 'all politicians are corrupt'. It has even crossed my mind in the last couple of years that it must be getting more and more difficult to find an honest politician. So many of our lawmakers seem more beholden to what some lobbyist wants to see done than with what the people want to see done.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

As a registered Independent, I don't listen to Republicans and give them any credence anymore. The current Republican Party under Trump has lost my respect, as well as my support and my vote. In fact, I'm actually looking forward to the next Democratic President, which will bring an abrupt end to all the political pandering toward conservative Christians (evangelicals and fundamentalists). Neither the Executive Office of the President or the other branches of the government should promote and endorse any sect of the Christian faith or promote any other specific religion over all other religions.

That's true of course, although I think redwingsfan's point is most likely correct. There is just too much going for the Democrats in the "automatic" vote area--changing the way votes are counted in state after state, unlimited immigration with no supervision at the polls to speak of, unlimited absentee voting and "vote harvesting," etc.

It may be that the Republicans really ought to get on the "eliminate the Electoral College" bandwagon, since that will be their only chance, even if it's a longshot. Turn Florida, Texas and perhaps Arizona blue because of all these factors and winning via the Electoral College will be over and done with.

I think our democracy is big enough and strong enough to endure a Democrat in the White House. Especially since it has already endured Trump
That depends a lot on which Democrat is in the White House and, given the make-uip of the current crop of contenders, you might be proven wrong very fast.

You are correct, and once one of the ism's get into power everyone will hate it.

Just ask people who grew-up in Eastern Europe during the cold war...they will tell you.

Free enterprise, low taxation, small government, and limited regulation, that's how nations, and people prosper.
that is what Reagan said as he was waging war on the working class

Middle class families prospered under Reagan and had a lot of love for him.
What are you referring to?

I don't know what you are referencing, but most people liked, and appreciated President Reagan.

He was hard on trade unions, and he expected people who could work, to do so, and to work hard, make sacrifices where needed, and make good decisions. Those opposed to him didn't think they should have to make any sacrifices, or, work hard, or, improve their own lives (which is not the government's job)

I voted for Reagan both times, and make no apologies for that.

...and a lot of people didn't.

He was hard on trade unions,
Well...he was Republican, so, no surprise there.

and he expected people who could work, to do so, and to work hard, make sacrifices where needed,
And he expected people who couldn't work to die instead. You know, so he could pay for his tax cuts. :sigh:

and make good decisions.
...like whether to pay for the medicine they needed to stay alive or buy food or to pay the heating bill. All part of the sacrifices needed to pay for his tax cuts. :sorry:

Those opposed to him didn't think they should have to make any sacrifices, or, work hard, or, improve their own lives (which is not the government's job)
Wow...it's like you really do have the "Reaganomics 101" handbook talking points memorized. all that's needed now is "welfare-queen" and "shining city on a hill". and you'll have captured the Reagan years in one post! :D

I voted for Reagan both times, and make no apologies for that.
got you beat! I voted for him both times AND I voted for him in the primaries when he ran against President Ford! And I don't apologize either, it took me a long time to realize just how bad he was at being President.

When Reagan took office 24% of all jobs were manufacturing. When he left office manufacturing jobs accounted for only 14% of all jobs.
Real hourly wages for the working class doped 20%
Reagan cut taxes twice and raised taxes 33 times. In the 1980's working class families saw their taxes rise an average of 12.5%

Reagan fired the first shot in the class war by codifying income inequality.

I'm still waiting for the middle and lower classes to fire back.

The problem is, 60 years of liberal teaching has dumbed down the masses, and republicans are gleefully taking advantage of that ignorance.

Dump BOTH parties. Neither one is good for us.
