I think JackRT has it right....Facebook and Twitter have bled off a lot of people from traditional chat boards like this one, although---like this one---they're still out there. 
I became active back here myself earlier this year; for me, I get tired of a lot of the negativity on Facebook and I need a break from it once in a while.
