Nowadays it's fairly popular idea that if there is life on other planets, it will null and void the claims of the Bible. However...
I have no idea where they get that. I first heard that garbage on the James Dobson radio show back in the mid 1990s.

It would raise interesting questions. Jesus became a man to save us. Angels are saved by obedience. Animals by their relationship with their human owners. But what would be an aliens relationship to God. If they were humanoid would Christs sacrifice cover them, if not would it be a different kind of relationship with the Divine. But the bible leaves scope for different kinds of creatures than human beings. I suspect however that there are not other higher life forms out there except of course the angels.
That question has been asked theologically in the past because some argued that if other worlds exist Christ's sacrifice would need to happen over and over again untold times. That he would be too busy dying to have time to do anything else. The response was Do other worlds need to have a redeemer? How can we know if every world had to have Adam, Eve and an apple in their origin? Basically we can't assume that ET necessarily needs to be saved.

Even if you had an early warning system, what exactly could you do with it? Tell a city of a few million people that at 5am next Tuesday they're going to be vaporised, but we'll be praying for y'all? Shoot rockets at it and hope one of them hits it? Send a geriatric crew of astronauts and rock drillers to land on it and blow it up into smaller town destroying bits? Take a ring side seat a hundred or so kilometres outside the city and watch the fireworks?

Even if we knew it was coming, there wouldn't be much we could do about it.

If the threat were detected early enough while it is still far away, it is possible that we might be able to deflect it slightly enough to miss the earth. Many of these asteroids are actually in orbit around the sun and we know sometimes years in advance when they will pass close by again.

I don't want to mess with anybody's faith, but in my own faith I am pretty sure that if the writers of the O.T. had benefit of modern science and NASA, they would have changed the order of things as reported in Genesis et al. As it was, they were not men of science, but rather were men of faith who worshipped the one true God. And while the order of things doesn't really gel if you know modern science, the concept was as perfect as God is perfect. God made it all happen regardless of when, how, and in what order which even science has to guess at all of that.

So I am thanking God that this meteor didn't hit Earth as it would have done a tremendous amount of damage and could have killed millions if it hit a heavily populated area. I believe we have been hit by geology and life changing asteroids in the past--most scientists believe it was just such an event that killed the dinosaurs--and, unless God does wrap up this Earthly existence earlier, it is almost inevitable that it will happen again. The only diference is that we are developing technology that may make it possible for us to destroy or divert such an incoming killer. And I earnestly support that research.
If God sends asteroids to destroy the earth, then nothing can be done to stop the destruction.
Even to a non determinist, you would think they would admt God wont permit such a thing against His will.

And as Christians, we should know this earth is marked out for destruction, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth where there is no more evil. The old ones are dissolved in fire.
2 Peter 3
The Day of the Lord
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [d]burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

For the world, this destruction comes as a thief in the night so unexpectedly, no warning system is going to work.

Jesus is not on earth right now , having ascended up there so I guess he qualifies as extra terrestrial life. Angels may well exist elsewhere and I see no reason why not on other planets. JUst cause the bible does not explicitly spell out alternate locations for alternate creatures does not rule out the possibility. Also if we take life up there on a spaceship it will exist elsewhere also. Personally I am also a creationist but NASA theories on the formation of the Earth and cosmos are just theories, they have also supplied a lot of useful observations such as of near earth asteroids for instance.

Well, the Israelis crashed a vehicle containing a colony of tardigrades on the moon, and those are some hardy creatures that can actually survive in those conditions. So there is life on the moon now.

Depends on how early you detect it. The earlier it's detected, the easier it is to change it's orbit to miss earth. If detected early enough, changing it's orbit could be as simple as putting a spacecraft in an appropriate orbit around the asteroid.

It's kind of a mean thing to do to a harmless little water bear, but I'm not so sure it's safe to say that there's life on the moon, now. It's like buying a dozen eggs at the store and thinking you have chickens. It might be technically true, but somewhat misleading.

So if we happen to see an approaching danger we should not do anything about it because it is God's will. If someone throws a punch at me you can bet that I am going to duck ---- and think you would too.

The earth is going to duck when an asteroid comes? I'd like to see that.

The miss distance of this event was extremely close ... about 10% of the Earth-Moon distance, if I recall right. An asteroid of that size could do terrible damage to a city, if we got unlucky and the impact point was in a densely populated area.

Of course, 70% of the Earth's surface is ocean, so that helps. Most likely the impact would be in the sea.

Im sure some people here have seen the impact crater in Arizona. It is impressive. I cant remember the size (estimated) for that meteorite.

In principle, we could intercept and destroy these city-killer asteroids with a rocket armed with a nuclear weapon. However, no such defense is "ready and waiting' at the current time. It would by very difficult to put together that kind of emergency mission ... in just a few days. That is typically the only warning we have against small asteroids - just a few days.

So yes, only God knows the future. But I seem to recall that there have been at least a dozen incidents like this in the last 20 years. There have been quite a few warnings ... happening on our proverbial doorstep. Meanwhile, I am not losing sleep over it. And apparently, neither are the world's leaders.

Your NASA data includes an observation from 2017. But they named the asteroid 2019 OK. I suppose if it had hit it would have been 2019 Not OK or 2019 Ouch or something similar.
“Third Eagle” is not smiling. :)

The article speaks of sending small unmanned ships to deflect the course of the wayward asteroids.
Yes,
but on the other hand (faith trusting the Creator),

HOW did someone STOP the flight of the SUN across the sky ?

(what is bigger and more difficult to do - affect the SUN, or a teeny tiny asteroid ? )
(the SUN is a few million or billion times as big and massive as an asteroid, right ? )

Uh huh. You got some small unmanned ships lying around? I seem to have misplaced mine.

How big would these "small" ships have to be? How quickly could they be launched and intercept these asteroids we don't know about until they're on us? How effective would they actually be?

And, of course, the biggie ... how much will they cost? Not only to build but to maintain? (Oops. That asteroid interceptor that's been sitting there for 20 years 'cause we didn't need it seems to have corroded a tinge. It didn't launch when I pushed the button and - yep - we're all dead.) In the meantime, developing new agricultural methods lacked funding and a million kids in the 3rd world starved to death.

I can think of more. Like the terrorist that steals an interceptor, or sabotages one so it hits Russia instead of the asteroid.

Then I also seem to recall that one of the problems with the Shuttle was that the boosters put out so much exhaust they're actually an ozone concern. Can't upset the green lobby.

But hey. I'm just an engineer who listens all day long to people talk about how easy this science stuff is - snap of a finger - when we dummy's can't even seem to properly balance an engine.

Thanks @redleghunter . I needed a good Friday rant.

For the world, this destruction comes as a thief in the night so unexpectedly, no warning system is going to work.

It is also God that created the incredible creatures that human beings are and infused them with capacity for reason, creativity, innovation, and ability to learn and develop civilizations and solve problems. We now see through a glass darkly what the ultimate future of humankind will be. Perhaps the final destruction of the Earth will be when our sun inevitably goes nova and destroys its own solar system. That would fit with the imagery of a world destroyed by fire. We are not given to know that but only that we should live our lives so that we are ready whenever it happens.

For now, I think our duties are to love and obey God, live honorably for His glory, be a positive influence in our family, social circles, community, nation, and the world, and appreciate the gifts and abilities that he gave each of us to accomplish that. And I will be properly impressed but not at all surprised when we come to know that some are given gifts and knowledge to divert an incoming planet killing asteroid or comet or whatever heavenly bodies are out there on a crash course with us.
