It's a padded bar which pivots down from the back of the pew in front of you. Of course if you are one of our Slavic brethren you will now be asking what is a pewI'm sorry, I have no idea what you are saying and I am curious. What is a kneeler?

Something like this, although some places it's just a simple cushion that you can slide in/out of the chair or pew in front of you.
We westerners are too weak to kneel on the cold, hard floors
Those things have helped me quite a bit at times. Otherwise I would have created a disturbance by needing help to get back up. (Except I just bend over seated if I'm unable to get up and down on my own.) But with kneelers and a pew in front of me, I could look almost like everyone else.

So many times , sadly , folk are unable to put them up or down QUIETLY !!
The crashes that can be heard can be very off-putting
I think there were about 6 of us who didn't kneel for the 'Kneeling Prayers ' and all of us do have problems anyway. Of course we only have 2 chairs and 3 benches so only 8 people can actually sit.
Instead of the sound of "The Doors! The Doors!" closing, it's the sound of "the Kneelers! The Kneelers! Let us be attentive [to disruptive sounds]!"But that IS the Tradition of the (Recent) Fathers, it symbolizes the time to round up the youngins and skootch them for the Eucharist and then off to Sunday School!
you will now be asking what is a pew
