From the Agreed Statement - Cairo 2014 (Anglican - Oriental Orthodox Dialogue)

@ 7
The term ‘monophysite’, which has been falsely used to describe the Christology of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, is both misleading and offensive as it implies Eutychianism. Anglicans, together with the wider oikumene, use the accurate term ‘miaphysite’ to refer to the Cyrilline teaching of the family of Oriental Orthodox Churches, and furthermore call each of these Churches by their official title of ‘Oriental Orthodox’. The teaching of this family confesses not a single nature but one incarnate united divine-human nature of the Word of God. To say ‘a single nature’ would be to imply that the human nature was absorbed in his divinity, as was taught by Eutyches.

I am hoping in some small way that this may help this discussion. I fear that sometimes we treat the Councils as being very theological and forget that in some way they were also a little bit political (and I apologise for those who shocked by the idea that political machinations could find their way into the Church). The Council at Ephesus had limited representation from Antioch and although they agreed to the outcomes there was some tension in the air, and subsequently at the Council of Chalcedon it is likely that Alexandria's participation was somewhat limited and that decisions were taken before the case was put.

In reality the differentiantiation between the Chalcedonian Christology and OO Christology is so fine as very few in the west can do more than wonder that it is enough for division.

Nestorius' language wasn't unclear. his twelve anathemas against St Cyril are very heretical.
This is so. When I finally read some of Nestorius, I saw that this was so.

I think what happened generally was that they grew up in the OO Church and later on came to view the two natures language of EOs as acceptable. But it's still pretty hard for them as humans raised in their own Churches to take the steps of saying that their community was wrong about Chalxedon, so that the EOs are the one Church and they need to join it. There are a lot of steps along the way.

oh to be sure (although the 6th Council is really where we divide). that was more of a rhetorical question.

Ephesus was a reaction against Nestorianism. Chalcedon was a reaction against Eutychianism. Nestorianism was an extreme view of the school of Antioch. While Eurychianism was a hereticized Alexandrian/Ephesian point of view.

and the 5th Council showed how both Councils, properly understood, express the same Christology.

I genuinely hope one day things will be completely healed and worked out with The Oriental Orthodox. They are probably the closest theologically to Eastern Orthodoxy compared to all other groups from Apostolic Succession.

Technically, wouldn't the only thing they need to do is except the 4 other Ecumenical Councils ?

that, and Constantinople IV (which wouldn't be a problem) and Constantinople V (which would be a big problem).

I was having trouble finding info on The 9th The Ecumenical Council :
Ninth Ecumenical Council - OrthodoxWiki

The 8th Ecumenical Council
has a good amount of information available though:
Eighth Ecumenical Council - OrthodoxWiki

The 7 Ecumenical Councils, 325 A.D. - 787 A.D (Eastern Orthodox Video)

the 9th defended Palamism and our understanding of theosis. this was something that Coptic Pope Shenouda wrote against. Palamism is extremely important to us, and Pope Shenouda is extremely important to the Copts.
