I "can" sin, but I don't because God's seed remains in me. (1 John 3:9)
John is writing to Christians,
but not to you, right? ...
1 John 1:
8 If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
10 If we say that we have not sinned,
we make Him a liar,
and His word is not in us.

You gotta realize that John is addressing two very different kinds of men in 1 John 1.
Those who walk in the light/God and those who walk in the darkness/sin.
Those who walk in darkness cannot say they have no sin because darkness is sin ! (Pro 4:19)
Those walking in the light are walking in God. There is no sin in God.

You should read this whole link to see the truth
I've seen enough of "his" truth.
BTW, would that be the "truth" Jesus said could make you free from committing sin? (John 8:32-34)[/QUOTE]

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

If you are dead to sin how can you still sin? If you sin you are not dead to sin.

At the moment you were born-again …
you were only forgiven of the sins you had committed up to that point in time!

“For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his OLD sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for IF you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
(2 Peter 1:9-11, NKJV)

“OLD sins” is also in the KJV, RSV, NLT, AMP

“having forgotten his purification from his FORMER sins.” (2 Peter 1:9, NASB)
“FORMER sins” is also in the ESV

“forgetting that they have been cleansed from their PAST sins.” (2 Peter 1:9, NIV)
“PAST sins” is also in the HCSB

Now for some confirming NT passages …

Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church concerning his words of rebuke in 1 Corinthians that he had sent to them concerning some particular sin(s).
They really needed to be sorrowful and repent.

“… the pain (from his rebuke) caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants His people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. … worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual (eternal) death.” (2 Corinthians 7:8-10, NLT)

“Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.” (2 Corinthians 12:21, NLT)

Peter is warning believers about God’s destruction of all ungodly and unholy people:
“Then he used the water to destroy the ancient (ungodly) world … the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed. … He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed (perish spiritually), but (he) wants everyone to repent. … what holy and godly lives you should live … (you) make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight. … I am warning you ahead of time … Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors …”
(2 Peter 3:6-17, NLT)

John gives the condition for the Lord to forgive believers’ present sins:
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness (unrighteousness).”
(1 John 1:9, NLT)

“This is an extremely important verse … all men need to be repeatedly purified from all unrighteousness – from all their sins … We must confess our sins and turn from them … We must also confess them with our actions … (John) is talking here about repentance … we must hate our sins and turn from them. This is true repentance.” (The Applied New Testament Commentary;
Dr. Thomas Hale)

2 verses later, John reminds believers to ask Jesus to plead our case before the Father:
“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.”
(1 John 2:1, NLT)

Believers are responsible for repenting of their sins after they are born-again! They have been given the Holy Spirit, a totally new nature, and God’s word. So, they have been enabled to be victorious overcomers over sin, the world, and the devil. They have no excuse for failing to do this.

What happens if you forget to confess a sin?

Just the day before yesterday I was driving home with my family on a two lane road and a lady in the oncoming traffic crossed my stripe a little bit and scared me. I said “OH SH@$ LADY!!! not so that she could here me it was just a reaction of fear. I couldn’t swerve over because there was a guard rail right next to me. Now suppose she actually hit us head on and I was killed instantly. I had just made an unconfessed sin. Would I burn in the lake of fire for all eternity?

It's not a matter of sinning. It is being in the flesh verses being in the Spirit. In the first you sin, in the second you don't. No matter how much you confess and try, in the first you cannot stop. A thought will come into your mind that is unholy. You need deliverance through the agreement that you are crucified with Christ to the world and sin. THis does not occur at conversion. It comes later.

Personally I don’t believe in glorification in this life. I would have to see it first to believe it. From what I’ve seen in the scriptures I think the context of it being in this life is inconclusive.

What happens if you forget to confess a sin?
Greetings!
It's ALL about having the correct and acceptable
heart attitude ... it's ALL about striving to please the Lord ... and striving for perfection ... which He has asked us (nay, commanded us) to do!

Art thou on board with that? ... I believe you are.

Many are NOT ...
so they rationalize their way ...
as they habitually sin on the broad road
to you-know-where.

Personally I don’t believe in glorification in this life.
You mentioned glorification, so I'll comment ...

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30, NKJV)

From the above,
do we agree on God’s #1 priority? …
He predestines some people to be
conformed to the image of Jesus!

This being “conformed” to the likeness
of Jesus is called “sanctification”.

To be sanctified means to be set apart, and
to bemade holy … and … there is a positional sanctification, and then a progressive sanctification.

Man is made up of 3 parts (body, soul,
and spirit) … and our whole being
is to be made into Jesus’ likeness
(to attain the state of glorication)!

Yes the process of being conformed to the likeness of Jesus is called sanctification. Glorification is the completed process. I don’t believe we will achieve glorification in this life.

Are we to continue to repent? Of course as we continue to be conformed to the image of Christ we will be more aware of our failures and sins.

Yet we can only be justified once, not multiple times and justification is past tense:

Romans 5: NASB

1Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

It's a mystery to me how a BAC can be
justified before he has been finally saved.
Probably, it's that deal where the BAC gets
absolutely everything ... and keeps all of it,
IF he holds up his end of the covenant, which
requires co-operating with the Holy Spirit,
ends up sincerely repenting of his sins, etc.

I have a whole page of NT verses which say
a BAC is NOT saved until the end of his life.
(Presumably, that is because God gives
the sinning believer a long time to
come to his senses and repent.)

These are the "endurance" verses.
Some of them are conditional "IF" verses!
For example ...
"IF we endure, we shall also reign with Him."

Tell it to the apostle Paul.
What do you think of ...
"the BAC gets absolutely everything ... and keeps all of it, IF he holds up his end of the covenant, which requires co-operating with
the Holy Spirit, ends up sincerely repenting
of his sins, etc."

I.E. dost thou reject all of the "IF" verses?
