• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello All,

I have Multiple sclerosis and a few other conditions. I’m struggling with pain recently; Luckily I do not think it’s neuralgia of any sort more just “chronic pain”. Having spoken with my M.S. nurse and neurologist it seems to be caused by general fatigue and erroneous signals due to nerve damage.

I’m 30 later this year and while I’m still in good physical condition. BMI/BF% are the same now as they were when I 20. I get periods were I feel old, I feel like I have arthritis (I don’t), I find it hard to eat and drink and workouts/walking the dogs are so depressing due to pain.

I could have my medication increased (Tramadol, Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tecfidera) but I do not want this. My Girlfriend has been making me herbal teas “from back home” as well as crystallised ginger for my stomach. Can you recommend any other natural remedies for aches and pains.

If I have interacted with you and been moody the past few days I apologise.

Thank you and God Bless,

J

I have read that some claim honey and cinnamon help fight pain. I rather doubt that there is much to it, though the honey idea is interesting, since it seems that bee venom does fight pain. Perhaps some of the pain fighting properties of bee venom gets into honey? I do not have a lot of pain, but have had more in recent months than what is normal for me. I have honey every morning on bread, so I guess it does little to help me fight pain. Mom has it every day also and she had loads of pain. Hence, I am skeptical, but everyone is different. What works for one person may not work for another.

I should add that I have cinnamon daily as well, either in the form of a cinnamon roll or apple coffee cake with cinnamon. Hence, I am skeptical of it's pain fighting ability as well, but until I injured my arm two months ago, I had very little pain, so who knows?

My apologies for the late reply. I got engaged to be married and was abroad visiting her family.

There are many benefits of honey so it is entirely possible that the some of the beneficial properties are shared between the honey and the venom. As they originate from the same source.

I would imagine the dosage of cinnamon found in sweets etc would not be enough for any tangible “medical” benefits. Although I am told that turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory properties so I would not discount other spices just yet.

Thank you for replying I’ll look into it. My pain is not as bad I personally feel diet does have a big effect on how sensitive one is to pain.

God Bless

J

MS and Lyme can be confused in diagnosis because they have such similar symptoms. Lyme also produces other effects such as arthritis (often migrating), fatigue, and much, much more.

Because Lyme (neuroborelliosis) and MS work in similar ways, by degenerating the collagen nerve sheaths, perhaps herbal Lyme treatment would help you. Stephen Buhner's book, Healing Lyme, is excellent. There also is a Web site dedicated to him with a lot of free information.

If you do decide to take herbs (as I am doing for Lyme), start low and go slow, and perhaps consult your doctor (and/or the materia medica in the Buhner book) to guard against cross-indications.

Dear Paul,

Thank you very much your post is much appreciated and I was able to find the epub online for free.

I’ll read it before starting any herbal remedies as they are certain herbal remedies that I have contraindications with even though they may be perfectly safe for the average person.

Many thanks and God bless,

J

Also, make sure you have the second edition of the book, or at least get information from him online about uncaria rhynchophilla, which subsequent to the first edition he found is critically good for neurological protection and restoration. Also, collagen supplementation is a good thing to do. There are several supplements that will help do that.
