It's not that if we sin we are not saved,
but if our attitude towards sin
has not changed then
one is not likely saved.
Yes, it's all about one's heart attitude!
It's about true love for God causing obedience.
It's about true repentance causing forgiveness.
It's about the co-operation between God and us
during the process of our salvation.

No. He that does righteousness is talking about righteous works or deeds. This is what John means.

The confusion arises when people read Paul and they are looking to defend a sin and still be saved type doctrine or a sin safety net type doctrine. However, Paul is referring to the 613 law of Moses contractually speaking. He is not referring to all laws or commands. Paul is not referring to the laws or commands that come from Jesus and His followers. Circumcision was the problem or issue because it no longer applied anymore because it was a part of the Old Law. That is why he spoke in the way that he did. For if a person thought they had to be first circumcised to be saved, they are undermining God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ first. Jesus is how we are initially and ultimately saved. But after we are saved by God's grace, we have to obey the commands of Jesus and His followers in the New Covenant as a part of eternal life. Jesus Himself affirms to the truth that we are to love God (with some details) and to love your neighbor as a part of eternal life in Luke 10:25-28. Nowhere does the Bible say that you are righteous even if you sin.

The Bible teaches that sin can separate us from God from Matthew to Revelation (Matthew 5:28-30) (Matthew 6:15) (Matthew 12:37) (Matthew 25:31-46) (Luke 9:62) (1 John 3:15) (Galatians 5:19-21) (Revelation 21:8).

The Bible teaches that obedience to God's commands is tied to eternal life from Matthew to Revelation (See Matthew 19:17-19) (Luke 10:25-28) (1 John 1:7) (1 John 3:23) (Hebrews 5:9) (Revelation 22:14).

Galatians 2:16 "know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified"

No one is justified by keeping doing the good works of the Law. If you look to the Law for Salvation, you miss the point OF the Law which is to lead us to Christ, who kept the Law out of His OWN Righteousness, which WE receive when we have faith in Him. NO PERSON SHALL BE JUSTIFIED BY KEEPING THE LAW because they are ALREADY filthy with the unrighteousness of iniquity. The Law says "If you keep these things you shall live" but the Word says "ALL HAVE SINNED". It's too late to try and be Justified or made Righteous by keeping the Law. You've already broken it and become defiled. Jesus' Blood is the only thing that can cleanse you now, and His Righteousness is the only HOPE of Salvation. By the Spirit, I am looking forward to the Righteous of God which has been revealed and shall be revealed.

That simply is not true. Both Jesus and Paul taught it long before the end of the 1st century.

“I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish” John 10:28

"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.” John 6:39

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” John 5:24

“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30

Before you read John 10:28 please read John 10:27. My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow Me. He doesn’t say they followed Him. They follow present tense.

Before you read John 6:39 please read John 6:37

“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”
‭‭
Notice the definition of the Greek word érchomai which is translated to the word comes or cometh. This is only used in the present and imperfect tense meaning anyone who is presently and continuously coming to Him He will certainly not cast out.

So now some are dancing to the tune of... we have to do good, while not quit saying we have too? :)

Great! I'll take it! Word it how you must for now.

Sounds like we're realizing there is a condition. Keep working at it, and one day we may be able to admit the simple truth. Only then can we stop trying to confuse the issue, that has been confused by preachers that are more concerned about filling their plates/pews by teaching people the deadly message they want to hear, and teach the actual truth to others, then hopefully reverse the mess, and bring those home that it's not too late for due to their allowing themselves to be conditioned by the powers of evil..

Hope so anyway.
Relax, by works was no one saved...ever and never will be. The work that matters is believing in Jesus.

Maybe try read Romans 7:18-24, Paul illustrate how powerful sin is...verse 18, For I know that good itself doesnot dwell in me, that is in my sinful nature. For I have desire to do what is good but I CANNOT CARRY IT OUT....verse 20....."but it is SIN living in me that does.
1Corins4:20 "...the Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power...

Nothing to do with salvation. He wasn't perfect.

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30

Oh one more thing please look at Ephesians 5 where Paul warns children of God about living a sinful lifestyle which will result in them receiving the wrath of God on the sons of disobedience which is they will have no inheritance in the kingdom of God.

The assurances of Jn 10:28 only apply to those sheep who "listen and "follow" in v.27. Those sheep who disobey are not promised eternal life.

Exactly the same as 1 Corinthians 6 and Galatians 5!
Habitual sinners have NO entrance into the Kingdom.

Check the context. Paul is talking about the Law of Moses that was given to Israel. Paul was NOT referring to the commandments of Jesus Christ and from His followers. Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:3-4 that if any man speaks contrary to the words of Jesus Christ and the doctrine according to godliness, he is proud, and he knows nothing. James 4:6 says God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. For is defending a sin and still be saved gospel really the more humble position?

What is your definition of grace? Is it the same as the apostles?
Yes it is. Grace is undeserved favor and mercy, in the place of merited wrath. This grace enables us to walk and serve God, being set free from sin to serve God by His word and Spirit.

Yes, and what about BACs who refuse to do this ...
... preferring to live in habitual (unrepentant) sin?

How about the sin of not enduring in the faith,
which is what this thread is all about?

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
This means that we get our faith from the Bible.
Seeing the Bible teaches certain essential core doctrines, truths, and commands for us, we have to continue in all these core things as a part of the faith. This would include the Bible's teaching on how not all sin is the same. We have to also continue in that doctrine because to say that all sin is the same is false and it will lead a person into the OSAS camp or it will lead them to treat sin in a hypocritical way (Seeing that they may have faults of their own character that need to be worked out with God).

But to answer your question more directly in regards to what Scripture says:

"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels." (Revelation 3:5).

So yes, we have to overcome in the faith, otherwise our names can be blotted out of the Lamb's book of life (Which means a loss of salvation).

When Eternal Security Proponents or Belief Alone Proponents confront Revelation 3:5, they suggest that it is a book of the living (Meaning: It is a record of who is alive physically).

Yet, they have to also explain away Revelation 2:11 (the other overcoming verse) that says,

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death." (Revelation 2:11).

We know that the second death is the Lake of Fire (See Revelation 21:8).

Now, how they do a gymnastic flip around this one is beyond me.

Here are examples of bad logic:

“The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5
Also, names can be blotted out of the book of life.
“to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life” Romans 2:7
He said we had to do good or go to hell

“He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight — IF indeed you continue in the faith … and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel” Colossians 1:22-23

BCsenior says that this says that if we don’t continue in the faith God will take our salvation away.

“It is this Good News that saves you, IF you continue to believe the message I told you” 1 Corinthians 15:1-2

BCsenior says that this says that those who don’t continue to believe we lose their salvation.

IF we endure, we shall also reign with Him.” 2 Timothy 2:12

BCsenior says that this says that if we don’t endure we will lose our salvation.

“… follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” Hebrews 6:11-12

BCsenior says that this says that if we don’t follow their example we will lose our salvation.

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12

BCsenior says that this says that those who don’t patiently endure will lose their salvation.

“Those who love Me will obey My commandments.” Mathew 10:22

BCsenior says that this says that we fail to keep His commandments we will lose our salvation.

“But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:22

BCsenior says that if we don’t endure we will not be saved.

But IF you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of” Revelation 2:10

BCsenior says that this says this if we don’t remain faithful when facing death we lose our salvation.

Here is a perfectly logical statement: “These verses can be seen to cast some doubt on the eternal security of believers to those who are weak in systematic theology.”

What’s a good theologian to do? Compare scripture with scripture and bring straight forward and unambiguous scriptures to bear on the problem at hand concerning those ambiguous scriptures.

A few examples of unambiguous scriptures follow:

2 Timothy 1:12: "... I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."

Jude 1:24: "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen."

Ephesians 2:4-6: “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved); And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

“John 5:24: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

John 6:44-47: “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

John 10:28: “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

John 11:26: “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

John 6:37: “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

John 6:38-40: “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

1 John 3:2: “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Colossians 3:3: “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”

Ephesians 1:13: “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”

Ephesians 4:30: “And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

Colossians 3:4: “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”

Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Titus 3:5: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

Romans 4:5: “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”

1 Peter 1:4: “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.”

Romans 8:38-39: “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Titus 1:2: “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”

Hebrews 7:25: “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

Hebrews 10:14: “For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”

Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Numbers 23:19: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

2 Timothy 4:18: “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever.”

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10: “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.”

Ephesians 1:13: “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” Sealed by the Spirit.

Psalms 37:28: “For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved forever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.”

Romans 8:35: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

Isaiah 49:15: “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet I will not forget thee.”

Hebrews 4:10: “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.” It is God that works in the believer.

Hebrews 10:10: “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

Hebrews 12:2: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Romans 8:37: “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”

Hebrews 7:25: “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

Romans 8:29-30: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

Ephesians 1:5, 7, 11, 13: "Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will ... In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace ... In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: ... In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation ..."

2 Corinthians 2:13: "... God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth."

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Hebrews 10:17: “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”

1 Corinthians 11:31-32: "For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world."

1 Corinthians 3:11-15: "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."

1 John 3:20: "For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things."

Many more could be cited for security and often are.

Several scriptures can be seen to cast doubt on eternal security – not the least of which are the ones in Hebrews. But all can be seen in other ways as well.

Most of the many scriptures used to teach eternal security can only be taken one way – that those who have believed can never go to Hell.

One of the principles of good systematic theology is that we are to come down on the preponderance of the scripture evidence when forming doctrines.

There is good reason why most thorough systematic theologies concerning soteriology come down on the side of eternal security for those who have truly been born again.

In this case - the only reason people come down on the side of the weaker of the two groups of scripture evidence is either because they are weak theologians or because they have an agenda to teach a works oriented gospel – which is no gospel at all according to God.

That's all the time I have to give to this thread.
You guys go ahead.

No Christian lives in habitual sin.1jn3:8.
A Christian who sins is corrected by God Heb.12.

It's more than just living in habitual sin. One sin can separate a person from God. It happened with Adam and Eve, and it happened with Ananias and Sapphira.

It only takes one act of adultery to be a Bible defined adulterer.

"And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death." (Leviticus 20:10).

"But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul." (Proverbs 6:32).

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Matthew 5:28).

This was at the threat of being cast bodily into hell fire (See Matthew 5:29-30).

It only takes one act of murder to be a Bible defined murderer.

16 "And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death." (Numbers 35:16-17).

"Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him." (1 John 3:15).
So I do not see that it is only habitual sin that will cause a loss of salvation. It can be just one grievous sin that goes unconfessed to the Lord that can separate a person from GOD.

Here are examples of bad logic:

“The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5

“to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life” Romans 2:7

They SEEK for eternal life. They don't have Glorification type eternal life yet (Note: There are three tenses of Salvation; Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification). So what you said here actually works against you. You have also not offered any kind of rational logical explanation for Revelation 3:5 and or Revelation 2:11. How about Revelation 2:11? That one is harder to twist with your belief. Clearly you need to overcome in order to miss out on the second death. Revelation 21:8 clearly says that the second death is the Lake of Fire.

Hello, you cannot believe someone unless you really know that person and you cannot know that person unless he/she reveals or open up to you...
Once we choose, He starts the revealing bit.
This is the same as knowing God and His Son, Only the Son knows the Father so as only the Father knows the Son..That's it!!! So believing in Jesus is only the work of God...1Corins1:30, " It is because of Him (God) That You are in Christ Jesus....
Nothing is conditional but All on God and His mercy...
Our Friend does know the Father, and now so do we since we know Jesus. Yes, once we come to Him and chose Jesus, God works. God does not force anyone to do so. You seem to think it is some pre arranged magic carpet ride that only some folks are able to ride on.
