How else would you categorize it?

Women making difficult decisions, exercising their own agency, and assuming responsibility for their own lives.

No, but it is the main way to get pregnant.

That is only a social convention. Women could as easily get pregnant now days through sperm banks or in vitro fertilization.

Yes, abortion out of convenience is very irresponsible and selfish. More irresponsible than a deadbeat father who doesn't pay child support.

I disagree. If she is having an abortion because she can't afford more kids and she needs to dedicate those resources to her family, abortion may in fact be less selfish.

If you mean rapists, I hear tell that guns offer pretty good defense against them.
Yes, we could issue guns to all women and train them to shoot, then they couldn't complain that they wanted an abortion because they'd been raped. Good idea.

Or, we could give rape victims access to the "morning after" pill, however much it got up the nose of religious zealots.

Well, if God's "wrath" consists of leaving us alone, I'd say that the US has been on the receiving end of it since before the ink dried on the First Amendment...

... bravo, I say! Keep up the good (non)work!
Could be.

Funny how pills offend the religious, but firearms don't.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, indeed.

I think it has been adequately demonstrated by this discussion that "pro-life" is, at bottom, nothing but an attempt to impose religion by law.
There are non-religious people that are pro-life. They understand the immorality of killing the unborn.

So they are irresponsible for getting pregnant, but it’s responsible to kill their child because of it.

I wish that was a difficult decision.

Why would they abort that child?

There’s always adoption. The child isn’t killed, and a family that wants a baby gets one. Win-win.

Could be.

Gotta say... still not seeing the down side. YHVH, Allah, Zeus, Odin, Ra, Papa Shango, The Flying Spaghetti Monster... I find a "don't call us, we'll call you" policy works best with any pantheon...

You, however, may or may not take issue with the First Amendment, which demoted God from "absolute sovereign," to "a voice in the crowd, to be heeded, humored, or ignored at will."

Don't we have adoption now? And yet, not every kid gets picked for the team, do they?

That's correct. But they lack the extended religious agenda of the Christian Right, who make up the bulk of pro-lifers. They are not culture warriors.

Because adoption agencies and foster care isn't already overloaded with kids that they can't find homes for. Why not add tens or hundreds of thousands more?

You’re right. Killing them is much better. What was I thinking.

Adoption requires pregnancy, complete with all the burdens entailed by that. See my previous argument about slavery.

I'm not saying a woman should choose abortion, or that there is nothing good about putting a child up for adoption, but I am affirming within reasonable limits, that she ought to have that choice.
