Please pray for me. I’m going to check out some Catholic Churches where I live.

They have a bunch of different kinds here : Eastern Catholic, Traditional Latin Mass Churches, Modern etc.

I also have a question. How long are the classes for converting and learning specific teachings ?

Thank you all.

I think RCIA typically lasts a year. But have heard of some folks getting priestly permission to skip it.

My situation is kind of weird. I was baptized Catholic as an infant, but was immediately raised in the Lutheran church. Never got confirmed in the Catholic Church, have never been to confession, can't validly receive. I have no idea what my status is.

But I will definitely, definitely pray for you. God bless you. I feel the same need for the Church.

If you were baptised as a Catholic you should be able to find a priest who will help you with confession. You do have a right to this sacrament. From there you can receive the Eucharist. And confirmation after suitable discernment. This could be a one day thing or the priest might ask you to sit through a long discernment. I'm thinking it is negotiable, and possibly a very quick thing. You want to be actually ready, but maybe you are.

I'm giving you a gentle push.

Look for a Catholic church that has adoration, either perpetual or frequently. There is something about those parishes that is really special. You can find them by searching masstimes.org and then visiting. I do that when travelling in unfamiliar territory.

RCIA lasts about a year. You'll learn a lot. For people who already know the Bible well it is possible to get through RCIA in a shorter time than a year. It took me about 9 months before I was confirmed.

Welcome!

Thank you, Chevy. Maybe a push is what I need.

I would highly recommend the book "Catholicism for Dummies" , my catechism took two years and they told me nothing, and when I asked questions the answers were usually wrong or half baked. I found that book spelled out what was what & why, from the liturgy to the rosary.
It's a very complicated church with a lot of history & tradition.

Are the adoration chapels open to everyone?

Mine is open to anyone 24/7/363, but if you go after 9 PM until 6 AM you would need a code for the door. That's because we had an incident years ago, though I'm not sure exactly what happened. Otherwise it is open for anyone to walk in. Someone will be there. Act polite and observe silence and there will be no issue at all. Nobody will greet you or talk to you, because that's not what anyone is there for, being about the business of adoring God, but you can go and pray there too.

I mentioned 24/7/363 but it does close for bad snowstorms, closes during Sunday morning Masses, and is closed for Good Friday/Holy Saturday/Easter up to after the Easter Vigil. But the 40 hours devotion in the main church is available then.

You walk in, you can cross yourself with holy water if you feel called to do that, genuflect if you feel called to do that, sit or kneel or some of each, stay as long or as short as you wish. If it grows on you, you may come back again and again. It is a place for silence, which is one of the preconditions for good prayer anyway. Check your local hours before you go as not all are 'perpetual' but may have less hours they are open.

So, I just checked out a Catholic Church that was close to our apartment. The Mass seemed pretty modern compared to The Traditional Latin Mass.

Everyone was very nice. Thanks Everyone for the prayers.

Take your time. One will have the temperment to match yours. Mine is very much an organ and hymns place, not Latin mass but with several sung Latin parts, and it suits me fine. Keep an eye out for the Anglican Ordinariate as well. They are fully Catholic, very English, and I find them delightful. Not in every city by any means. Ordinariate.net

how are you doing?

did you go to rcia?

mine started in November which seems way too late to start and will end on Saturday night, the vigil before Easter Sunday

I went to the first rcia meeting but then I stopped because of work.

I actually started meeting with an Eastern Orthodox Priest about a month ago to become A Catechumen.
