First time ever...

I have joined Backyard Chickens, Bee Forums among many others but I have never even been tempted to join a Christian Forum...until now. I never was inside a church until I was 19. But I had a sense of God and Jesus from watching Billy Graham crusades on tv. Went to church very sporadically through my adult years and raising my children. I have been baptized and worked so many years as a nurse (I just retired) I lost my husband 8 years ago and my 4 children are all very busy, so I spend the majority of my time alone. It has been rough these last 8 years. It wasn’t great before, but this period in my life has not been good. I have been so troubled and I think under conviction. So I started reading the Bible. Every night. I was so surprised at how little I knew. And it seemed to uplift me. I am not comfortable going to church, I want to explore this on my own right now. I started watching movies on Netflix about different prophets in the Bible, about Jesus, that is all I have been doing or wanted to do. Then I looked on YouTube. And I watched debates between skeptics and believers and that is where I have hit a brick wall. The arguments given by the skeptics and scholars made me doubt my new found hope. I don’t know if that hope is gone forever. My faith was so new and so vulnerable. As I was searching online for some proof my belief was real I happened upon a post made on your site and that is what led me here

Welcome.

Youtube is full of people trying to stop people believing in God. I dont watch those videos. I have done but i know in my heart there is a God. I believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Dont get sucked in by those Christian haters. Continue on your journey with God guiding you.

Don't let others get you down, there are many searching and there are also many who make it their lifes business to deter others. I am sorry for your loss and your alone time but this is a great chance to get closer with your creator and his son.

The Old Testament promises a Messiah and the New Testament especially The Gospel of John shows who The Messiah is. So people can trust in The Messiah for eternal life. John 20:31

The critiques have been bashing away all that time and have done absolutely no damage.

Glad you landed here

Are there any specific things that are weighing on you that you could maybe post here and people could help clarify for you? There’s so much information out there (accurate and not) that it’s sometimes easy to drown in it and get lost. If it’s a general ‘what if I’m wrong’ kind of doubt I’d go back to your bible reading and praying and try to just push the skeptics aside. But for anything specific that you think of I’d really recommend reaching out here. Some of the people here are really good at helping to clear up confusion over interpreting a verse, or debunking something that someone has said.

If I am allowed to make an educated guess on what happened, it appears to me like the devil, who comes like a thief in the night, to kill, steal, and destroy, tried to get a hold of your heart to make you believe that what God just spoke through His word to you is a big bunch of nonsense, just like he did in the garden of Eden when he deceived Eve.

My suggestion is to remove yourself from watching these kinds of shows because you now know how vulnerable you are. Build yourself up in God's Word and let His truths be your weapon to resist the devil and all his lies. Would you like to talk more about this?

If you can post questions under a more specific sub forum then you do tend to get better answers. And ask questions about different things separately so threads don’t get too confusing. If you’re unsure where to post a question to my best guess (still navigating my way here too

) would be to post in General Theology. If one of the mods sees a better section for your post when you post it, or as the thread develops they are normally very happy to move it for you, they are very nice around here

Yes I will do that. I just need to learn the menu and read what others have said. I am reading the Bible daily. It confuses me and I am going to have to center myself and not let differences in other chapters throw me off tilt. I read in one place where when Jesus was crucified that Judas was so upset he went and hung himself then in a week or so I read that when Jesus was crucified that Judas bought land and stabbed himself in the stomach and died.

The story as I understand it is that he hanged him self after throwing the money at the leaders in the temple. They then used the money to buy the land where he did that since it was cursed as a result of him hanging till his body bloated and burst open. I don't know of a translation that talks about stabbing.

Keep reading and my personal choice is what Paul wrote about his message of salvation in the book of Romans.
