Oh my, I just found this thread. I'm not sure congratulations are in order so much as heartfelt thanks for wanting to serve all the rest of us.

I assume you will start in the fall of 2017. If so, your summer is going to busy and I suspect mostly Greek... I guess you could start studying Greek now to make it a little easier. Just a thought.

Interesting, I cannot say that I did not have my own flirtation with Orthodoxy. It was not for me, however. But I do admire Orthodox Christians and the deep spirituality that many hold.

At this moment I fully subscribe to the BoC. Yes, however I am learning about Orthodoxy and reading the Church Fathers. I am in talks with clergy from the East, my pastor and the admissions pastor to Seminary Fort Wayne.

It sounds like you are doing your diligence. G-d leads us where we need to be, I believe He will do the same for you. The BoC is a fantastic treasure that the Lutheran Church has that many do not take advantage of. Most of it can be squared with the Church Fathers as well, though not all (as the conversations between early Lutherans and EO can attest). To me, one of the biggest failings of the LCMS is the current congregational structure, but that could change if they chose to. The early writings are pretty clear, to me, that an episcopal structure is intended.

Also during this time I would ask for prayers.

You have my prayers. I have done plenty of wandering myself, I know where you are coming from. :)

Hey I think it’s great to learn all you can. I’ve been visiting an Orthodox Church for five years now and have a lot of respect for them.

I'm actually formerly Orthodox, but now Lutheran (ELCA). I like the overall approach of Lutheran ethics, and I think its what initially attracted me to the tradition. Particularly, I appreciate the Lutheran emphasis on personal moral agency, which is something that Orthodox do not necessarily teach. In this respect, Orthodoxy is much more of an eastern religion, though the tone is going to vary from region to region in the country.

This is a good point of view. Often the Eastern Religions are interesting to Western Christians for a number of reasons. Other reasons are the more open mysticism, which is an aspect that attracted me at one time. But this can be found in the Lutheran and RCC, among others, churches as well if one wants to find it. In the end, some of the attractive qualities of the Orthodox churches are more superficial and romantic than the reality. There was a time in my past that I heavily looked into the Coptic church, and found that it also had many issues (as all churches do) and I was more attracted to the way of worship and romantic qualities of the churches than the actual theology.
