Are pastors allowed to become rich and wealthy ?

I mean to become rich and wealthy from preaching the Gospel, is that sinful ?


Considering the fact that the early church HAS GIVEN UP EVERYTHING BY SELLING their properties and share it together.
Acts 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

People assume they give their money to God by giving thru churches.
They dont care whether their money end up in somebody's bank account for eternally.
Jesus warned us with the story of poor Lazarus who died in front of the Rich man's gate, the same situation happens with the poor homeless people who suffer outside the Rich Churches in the city.

That's a tricky subject and we should all mind our own business.

First of all, Paul said that both life and death are a fragrant aroma to God.

Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4 that, "death works in us(Paul and Timothy) so that life works in you(Corinthians)".

That kind of death is not viewed as a negative it's just that others support you and you cannot pursue all that life is.

Whereas, if life works in you, you should go out, as called in God's timing, and pursue all that life is to the fullest extent and share all good things with those who teach(death).

This should explain why our life is, or should be, much different then our pastors.

Unfortunately, many pastors teach that their death IS life and we should be like them--wrong!

On the other hand, I am good friends with a pastor who is also a wealthy global business adviser and he can teach life from life. He is a rare breed for sure!

I don't really think so, but then it occurs to me to ask why churches are paying exorbitant stipends? If churches offer that level of pay, can we entirely blame pastors for accepting it?

I think someone who gives regularly to a church should acquaint themselves with its budget and decide whether they're happy with the priorities reflected in it. If the church isn't publishing its budget for its members... then I'd say that's a problem right there.

The way this corrupt and evil generation (world) makes money or wealth is by exploiting and dealing injustice to the weak, poor, and honest people. This is why Jesus said, if you love money (by any degree), you are (will be) hating God and if you (truly) love God, you will hate money. More like in the literal sense in Luke 16:13.

The price of good life now is "sleeping in bed" with the people who runs this corrupt and evil world. God will judge these people whether professing Christians or not. Those who have good lives now will weep, while those who suffered will rejoice when Jesus comes and this is written in the Bible (Luke 6:20-26). Accepting Jesus in your heart, doesn't grant immunity to judgement and Jesus made clear of this in Matthew 7:22-23.

Being led by a false teacher to accept Christ doesn't grant salvation. These preachers don't have the saving the message of the Gospel even though they even use and quote from the Bible.

Only few will be saved as Jesus said. The # of Christians in the world today isn't few....you'd have to literally twist the truth if you think we are few today. This means a lot of Christians are actually being led by false teachers.

There were false teachers in Jesus' day, and we have them today. They are the popular teachers who tell people what they want to hear, such as "God wants you to be rich," "Do as thou wilt," or "There is no such thing as sin or hell." Jesus said false teachers would come, and he warned his disciples, as he warns us, not to listen to their vain imaginings from their own appetites for material wealth.

To make myself clear about Jesus saying if you love God, you will hate money in Luke 16:13 (literally)...

Jesus also did not rebuke His disciples who kept some money and a few personal items. Paul made some money in making tents.

It's okay to have jobs, have a few things, and have some money........

However, whether you love money or material things or not, will become evident in how much you spend money on yourself or your family......

Apostle Paul for example, probably spent all his money on the ministry of spreading the Word about Christ that he ended up living in poverty and a very difficult life.

The rich early Christians likely wasn't rich anymore when they sold their land and other possessions.

And why would they want to be when their is so many needy in this world.

Matthew Henry Commentary (for 1 Corinthians)
9:15-23 It is the glory of a minister to deny himself, that he may serve Christ and save souls. But when a minister gives up his right for the sake of the gospel, he does more than his charge and office demands. By preaching the gospel, freely, the apostle showed that he acted from principles of zeal and love, and thus enjoyed much comfort and hope in his soul. And though he looked on the ceremonial law as a yoke taken off by Christ, yet he submitted to it, that he might work upon the Jews, do away their prejudices, prevail with them to hear the gospel, and win them over to Christ. Though he would transgress no laws of Christ, to please any man, yet he would accommodate himself to all men, where he might do it lawfully, to gain some. Doing good was the study and business of his life; and, that he might reach this end, he did not stand on privileges. We must carefully watch against extremes, and against relying on any thing but trust in Christ alone. We must not allow errors or faults, so as to hurt others, or disgrace the gospel.

Everyone who is any part of the body of Christ knows that too much is too much.
The scriptures do not support the faces we have come to know from television and media.
What surprises me more is the fact that with all this money why aren't they making more? Gaining interest? Investments?
Establishing solid ministries which provide for the sick and needy, caring for the widows, giving out free Bibles? With this much wealth it could be easily parlayed into a revenue stream to do this.
But no....its sit on a private jet, writing speeches fly around and take cruises and con people with spiritual koolaid (Heavens Gate pun) about happy happy joy joy koombayah and how to empower your own life and overlook the needs of others while asking for money.
Kind of selfish is you ask me. How would I know? I was worthy of condemnation. I was selfish. I know its ugliness.
Televangelism is propaganda. The fruits speak for themselves.

To conclude..
Christ died for you on the cross. He bore the penalty for sin. Not only did he carry and have sin nailed to the cross, he carried your shame, regret, sadness, pain, and sorrow. Condemned for loving you so much he gave up his life willingly, voluntarily.
He was buried in a tomb. The author of all life!!! buried in a tomb!!!
On the third day, according to and fulfilling scriptures, he was raised from the dead to be glorified of the Father in the heaven.
For 40 days he was witnessed by more than 500 people who attested to his resurrection.
Then he ascended to heaven where he is on the right hand of the Father.
This power of resurrection, I care that you receive it so that you have life eternally.
I don't want your money, nor do I need it. God willing, I can and will work for my own food. I might even work at the same place you do. But the same love resides within me as the Holy Spirit. I want to share that with you. Christ shared it with me. Since he offered it freely, it is free to enjoy.

In our hearts all Christians know right from wrong. And when I see some Televangelists in their thousand dollar suits with their fancy haircuts and jewelry it disheartens me. It's OK to live well, but many of them take it to extremes and that's not OK. The Bible talks about how we should live in moderation. But when they have luxury home(s), fancy cars and airplanes that's greed over humility. :(

Philippians 4:5 - Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand.

And St. John said in the Bible, if we have the resources / wealth to help but does not help, is a sign the love of God is not in us - 1 John 3:17

This is also a clear sign that a person still loves money or material things and again Jesus repeated that the love of money is hatred of God (or absence of God's love) - Luke 16:13

And again, St. John clarifies the things of this world does not come from God but from the world and the love of these things is a sign the love of God is not in us - 1 John 2:15-17.

Is it possible to be a Christian or have salvation without God's love or not loving God at all?

Many Christians love to quote Apostle Paul's epistles or Proverbs to justify living in abundant material wealth. But Paul himself lived a very modest and austere life. And King Solomon emphasized what truly matters in Ecclesiastes and it has no place for material wealth, nor worldly accomplishments.

The ungodly also love material riches.....It's a desire of the flesh as St. John puts it. How is it possible to fully understand scriptures without bias if we still haven't "died in the flesh"? Many would undoubtedly see things in a context that would favor / serve the flesh. But God is Spirit and Jesus says, the flesh counts for nothing in John 6:63. Therefore, the flesh holds absolutely zero importance in Godly concerns.

It certainly doesn't look good when celebrity Pastors live like celebrities. There have also been high profile cases of moral corruption amongst them which damaged the reputation of Christianity in the United States. If God wants someone to be rich they will be but in general we shouldn't aim for it, we should be aiming way higher for the Kingdom of Heaven.

1 John is always a good go-to.

Serving the Father was never meant to be a money making proposition. He warned us that many false profits go out into the world. I.e. televangalists and organized religion. Though He will use all things for our good and His glory...these things are man made.

If a wealthy evangelist has to choose between his wealth and life style, and giving it up to live and work with the poor. I have little doubt which they would choose.
I doubt they would give it up for anything....

Becoming rich or earning a lot is all about responsibility (The Parable of the Faithful Servant). It concerns nothing to appraise ourself or to use for our own comfort, etc

As St. John said in 1 John 2:15-17, these things are clearly NOT a blessing nor favor from God.

Riches are more of a burdern or test and God will account of it -- much is given and much is required.
