Wait a minute I thought we're always hearing from the (one side) that no one should be able to refuse service to anyone.

It's good for me but, not for you.

I call that ((one-sided.))

Looks like a charming place with the skull and all.

Used to live in Hayward right next to Oakland they were nice places back then. Now they've turned into terrible places to live.

Oakland for quite some time has wanted to legalize practically everything. What a goal to have!

I guess if that happens they will not need police. It will be a crazy free for all. Kind of like the cowboy days with no sheriff in town.

Just think about "Gunsmoke" with no Marshal Dillon.

Story said it was dedicated to the minority kids killed by police.

The name Hasta Muerte, is Spanish for “until death.”

The Spanish police officer went there to introduce himself at the fairly new business. Hoping to build relations between the public and the police.

Sure, I think all will admit there have been many wrongs done by the police but, this officers heart seems to be in the right place. And he is a minority. So they not only discriminate against police but, also against minorities???

M-Bob

PS -- so very often on this site when I speak of the "good old days" ones chime in and asked me, what was better about back then? Well, I lived in that area way back when and it was a nice place to live. Who truly nowadays would want to live in Oakland?? Compared to this place I have high up on the mountain top there is no comparison. Kind of like the difference between Heaven and the hot place.

That point was raised by police supporters; but since the owners are also hispanic, I think that is not the case. They just hate police.

True, hate seems to be the key word there.

I don't feel that way about the ones that own the coffee shop but, I do not like them. Just think what they are teaching their children.

It's just one coffee shop and the other shops in that street seem to be unhappy with this decision.

I'm not supporting their choice, but acting like the entire city is going to anarchy because of one shop is hyperbole.

It was a beautiful safe place back when I lived there. It appears that the children of Oakland will never know how it used to be.

And Oakland wants to legalize practically everything kind of looks like they already have that going there?

Seriously after watching that video how many agree with the mayor of Oakland that amnesty 4 people is a good thing?

In this day and age it just doesn't make Lucrative Financial Sense to exclude any type of demographic from your establishment because you will loose revenue.

The whole point of having a business is to make money.

Can you still say that after watching five or ten minutes of the above video?
Just curious?
Maybe you have not studied Oakland lately?

Who is that coffee shop going to call if someone robs them?

I disagree. If I owned a coffee shop, it would probably be in my best interests to ban, for example, the local branch of the KKK.

They would probably just go ahead and sue you.

Kind of like the bakery that did not want to bake the cake for the gay couple.

I know these are screwy times.

It was better in the old days when I owned my bicycle shop we had a sign that said we could refuse service to anyone.

Do that nowadays and get sued it's crazy.

Sexual orientation, depending who you ask, is akin to a medical problem or a sex, in that you can't change it. One could easily argue that it should be a protected class. Political affiliation, and indeed any opinion that you hold, is not a protected class.

The sign was just as meaningless then as now. Public accommodation laws are not very recent additions.

I don't think that's true in the old days when I was young everyone knew that businesses could refuse service to anybody they wanted.

Not sure how old you are?
Maybe you were not even around back then?
