"so where does it say in the "handbook on election procedures" that the US Supreme Court shall step in and stop a STATE from recounting its ballots?"

HELLLLLO! Florida state law specifies the date by which an election MUST be certified. Kathleen Harris was following the law in refusing later ballot counts. The Florida Supreme Court ignored Florida law by attempting to override the law created rightfuly by the Florida legislators.

But as I remember it, Kathleen harris and other members of Jeb Bush's administration did everything they could to DELAY the recounts until the deadline had passed.

In that case, wilful obstruction would seem to have taken place.

In any event, counting the votes should be seen as a higher prioroty than sticking to arbitrary deadlines, and announcing a result before the votes have been properly counted.

Jutsuka,
The election debuckle in Florida is a true example of the wisdom of our system of government. No juntas, no overthrows or assanations- though almost a riot.

Yea, President Bush is dumb like a fox. People tend to underestimate him. This gives him great tacticle advantage.

Being president of the US isn't "serving" by your standards? I'm "serving" right now, and I know his job is MUCH more difficult and he works MUCH harder than I do.

How about having an opinion, or saying something, or doing something because you believe it is right even though it isn't popular opinion?

Axion,

"In any event, counting the votes should be seen as a higher prioroty than sticking to arbitrary deadlines, and announcing a result before the votes have been properly counted."

Again, this goes back to a prior post I make.
A conservatative interpretes a law as it was written.
A liberal reads into a law his own interpetation.

A law passed by a legislative body is a law that must be followed. One cannot say, "well in this case the law won't be applied. " For this to happen a new law is needed for the new condition

Faithful1,
I have not read all the posts in this thread but I had a good laugh at the ignorance supplied in your last post. The reason that the US 'knows' that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction is because the US supplied them.

Bush tries to claim that God is behind the US in this war, what a joke. God's word shows us that God only allows his people to enter battles when they are a lot smaller and weaker than the armies they are attacking. In this way the people have to submit to God and give glory to Him when they achieve victory. The USA going in with massive amounts of weaponry after forcing the destruction of weapons by Iraq over the last 12 years is exactly the opposite to the way God fights wars as shown on numerous occasions in the bible.

When does war begin? The US have been bombing Iraqi equipment for most of the last 14 days already but still pretend that they are in negotiations. What a joke. It shows how easily the people of the US are conned by their leadership.

The Iraqi have been destroying their missiles that travel more that 150 kilometers yet we know that the US forces that will attack them will be sending missiles in excess of 500 kilometers. It is easy to fight a war against an unarmed country. I think the cowards are the attackers in this case as they do not want to fight an even fight. Anyone can beat up someone weaker...it takes courage to stand up to someone stronger... I dont see the US as showing courage or leadership here just showing how gutless and money driven they are.

Now I cant say too much as the leader of my country is supporting yours.... but then again he is weak as well.......

Coastie,
you cant just send in a group of SAS to take out Saddam and his imperial guards. The elite imperial guard forces number 30,000 and the rest of the imperial guard number a further 70,000. So 100,000 in total in the imperial guard forces. I suppose if you base your thoughts on what you see in the movies the seals and SAS groups could kill at least 100 each so you only need to send in 1,000. So why have the US sent 200,000 forces to Iraqs borders and the UK 50,000 if you only need one group of soldiers to do the job.

The reality is that things dont work like in movies. The people shooting at the heroes kill the heroes in real life. In the movies a person armed with a pistol will always win against 20 non-heroes carrying machine guns.

I forgot to mention that I think you are wrong about this being about oil. There is something worth even more money going down over there. France, Germany, USA, UK, Russia and China are 6 of the 7 largest producers of weapons in the world. The 7th is Belgium and I am not sure of their position in this war.

China and France were the main suppliers of weapons into Burrundi when 800,000 people died in 100 days and the UN turned a blind eye while this went on. The group that gets control of Iraq will also have a the ability to supply all the warmongers in the middle east with weapons. Just imagine the amount of waeponry that will be required to secure the borders of Iraq when this conflict is over. You have Iran on one border, Kuwait on another, Syria, Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Imagine the sorts of defences you would require to secure yourself against all of those countries. Wow...an arms dealers gold mine......... this is not to mention that if you take out Iran as well you have direct access to Afghanistan and Pakistan.....

You could then use all that nice oil to manufacture and purchase weapons. I am sure if the USA takes control of Iraq then we will definitely have waepons of mass destruction within the borders of Iraq as the USA will certainly ship over some of their nuclear arsenal to help 'protect' Iraqs borders......
