Clearly a miss step by Francis. Which honestly catches me off guard as he has always been an ardent defender of life...even in politics.
I have to say that just the sheer fact that this papacy needs do many apologists makes me very uncomfortable.
The Pope does not personally fill diplomatic pouches.
sometimes life is uncomfortable
I hope I do not sound glib or dismissive
think of ancient Israelite
this was under King Rehoboam, the grandson of David
1 Kings 14:22-24
" 22 And Juda did evil in the sight of the Lord, and provoked him above all that their fathers had done, in their sins which they committed.
23 For they also built them altars, and statues, and groves upon every high hill and under every green tree:
24 There were also the effeminate in the land, and they did according to all the abominations of the people whom the Lord had destroyed before the face of the children of Israel"
I am sure many pious Jews were uncomfortable with what was going on
but Israel was still a nation dedicated to God, and He worked through it to bless the nations
this is what we have now, wicked leaders, men who have turned their backs on the ways of their grandfathers and take up the customs of nations, worshiping strange gods and committing abominations while weak, sinful, or just incompetent lead many astray
it is not comfortable
but the Christian life is not about comfort, it is about fidelity to God
that His will, not ours, is done
God bless you
David has been bobbing and weaving in regards to the Chilaen comments.
