Hope you are paying attention to what the thread is actually about, and what I am making a case against.

I think it was a simple question about whether everyone speaks in tongues.

Glad you are an authority on what is a gift from God and what is not...could have fooled me. God is not a God of confusion and when something doesn't make sense...I will question it.
Wait a minute... I am not the authority on gifts. But the bible is God's word and He says that it is a gift.

1 Corinthians 12:8-11King James Version (KJV)

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Are you a man that goes about telling others they are going to hell if they don't speak in tongues or have the signs mentioned here?

I don't recall stating that. In fact, I believe that I stated that I, myself, do not speak in tongues.

Not sure where you are getting all this stuff.

If you do support those claims, then I should expect just what I got from you, a baseless cut down where ever you can pretend one exists, I mean why is my saying that even a problem? And FWIW, still makes no sense, and if I shut up about it, it still wouldn't make sense. :) Nor do the other claims I mention and I will continue to make a case against, just as I did there.

You can rest assured that nobody is going to go to hell over speaking or not speaking in tongues. You can also relax as I fully understand that not all those who speak in tongues are of the Lord. Not all those that claim to be faith healers are con artists... There are legit gifts and those that will exploit them for personal gain.

From my speculation through my own experience, speak in tongue is all about how an entity speaking to a human under the circumstance of without a physical body. Without a physical body whatever the other side speaks will "appear" to be your native tongue. Whatever you speak in your native language will be understood by the intended audience right away in their native tongues. You don't need anything in between for an English speaker to chat with a Chinese, or even a group of audience of different languages. I believe that this is the nature of what speak in tongue is.

There's a mechanism which defines who your audience will be, there's another mechanism defines how your language will be conveyed to others. That's what it is.

So more likely, the interpreter is a native speaker of the language the one speaking in tongue. The gift is thus about an establishment of speaking or hearing on a soul basis. You can speak or hear bypassing the constrain of your physical body. That's the case.

That said, the most important part what Paul said is,

1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (NIV2011)
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.
If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.

Then surely you understand why I oppose those who make the opposite claim, yet you called me out in doing so.

Again, hope you now understand what's up. :)

Good stuff.

It's a lot like how we are told to pray in private, and not to use prayer as a tool to show off/how holy we are.

To just go off in public, if they are speaking in tongues at all, tends to make people wonder what in the world they are doing that for? No purpose, or is there? Then comes the thought they are doing nothing but showing off, and what follows that line of thought is, they aren't even speaking in tongues, as anyone who shows off has already shown themselves to be a fake.

So if any of you wonder why we wonder, that is how a completely logical thought process could go.

I didn't call you out for stating anything about tongues saving or damning those that do or don't do it.

I called you out for saying that there is no reason for it and that it makes no sense.

There's a biblical basis to charities and to some point, tithing. It makes sense to take care of people. Speaking in tongues for no reason whatsoever makes no sense at all to me, I see them as worlds apart as as far as sensibility goes...the reason I thought to ask.

To which I replied:

However, I am not a man who goes about telling others or claiming that a certain gift, from God non the less, makes no sense.

Without an interpreter there is no point to it.

Well, you may be right. I am no expert on this.

However, I have friends that pray, alone, in tongues.

I am not a person to say that anything, depicted by God's Word, as a gift, has no point or doesn't make sense.

I posted on this thread to answer the question, "Do all speak in tongues"?

I don't think it is a salvation issue. I don't think it is sacrilegious. I don't think it is heresy. I don't think that it shows that you do not have the Holy Spirit if you don't speak in tongues.

So, no, I don't think that all should speak in tongues. If God has put it on your heart to make it a personal quest, then I bless you in that quest.

I do not think it is my right to say it has no point or makes no sense.

You asked for comments... I gave you mine.

God bless.

Blessings to all in Christ Jesus. Do all speak in tongues.No. What I've learned is that many have this gift but do not know it, because they have not yet asked for it. I also know there is a demonic tongue, for I have witnessed it first hand in a possessed man,( notice I did not say a demonized man.)I have been on this path for over 20 years and wondered about the gift of tonques. On August 2nd I was on the Spirit filled board and was reading Oscars instructions on how to receive this gift. It consisted of only 4 things to do(actually 3). Below I will list them.To the naysayers and the mockers I would say thank you for your kindness and love for your brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. So back then I decided to do these instructions and I now pray in tongues just as many others do. And yes this is very effective against satans kingdom as I stated before. My hope is that others might receive this gift, as I did and the pass it on on how to receive it. When I followed the instructions, I went into the bedroom to pray and when I returned to the living room I opened my lips with a new prayer language. It flowed like a river just like when I preach in The Spirit. I did not have to prompt or practice, it flowed like a river. It is not gibberish or babbling it is a complete and Perfect language. What I now know is that this gift was there all the time, all I had to to do is have faith and ask for it. Below is what I did to receive this gift and my hope is others might do the same.

1.Believe that it is The Lords will for you to have this gift.
2.Go pray and ask for it.
3.Thank Him for it.(Faith)
4.Go do something you have never done before.

Let us all worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Amen

I heard a healing preacher on TV say that if you have the Holy Spirit you will speak in tongues. He said its the evidence of the holy spirit. Any comments are welcome.
The Bible says not all will speak in tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:10)

So not much God can do since people tie his hands.
Mark 6.4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.” 5 And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He wondered at their unbelief.

The Bible says not all will speak in tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:10)
Actually the NT scriptures, that is Jesus himself, states that believers
shall speak in tongues -
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they
cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16:17
speaking in tongues = praying in the Holy Spirit = daily communication
to Jesus and the Father through the Holy Spirit.

Do all speak in tongues?
Depends on you faith, doctrine and church.
In The Revival Fellowship, yes we all do.

Why did you not quote the rest of the passage?
they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
speaking in tongues = praying in the Holy Spirit = daily communication
to Jesus and the Father through the Holy Spirit.
Then am I to understand that you daily take up serpents, daily drink poisons and daily heal sick people through laying on of hands?
Do all speak in tongues?

But apparently not the rest of the passage. Why is that?

Those should have (((nothing))) to do with (true tongues spoken).

If there is such a thing these days?
Never heard any that sounded convincing.

You're making the mistake of reading that this is a sign which will apply to every believer. It merely informs us that it will be experienced among the believers (and not necessarily for all of time to come, either).

It is not the sign given to every believer. but only to those who believe
the gospel preached by Jesus and the Apostles.
That's why over the last 120 years of Pentecost the original true gospel
of salvation has been called the full gospel.
No omissions.
Jesus never ever said that these signs that shall follow them that believe
were for a season, or for just one generation.
Mark 16:15-20 is emphatic that these signs shall follow them that believe ...
believe the full Apostolic gospel in Acts and the epistles.

The signs disappeared from Christian worship with the rise of Constantine
and Roman paganised Christian State sponsored worship.
But God promised a latter day rain of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
and the signs have come to life again through the worldwide Pentecostal
revival of the last 130 years.
