As it is written...how do you even know what is written is even true, have you proven it to youself, thought for yourself, reasoned for yourself?

These are excellent questions. There is a General Theology Forum here on CF that might be an excellent place to post those questions:

How does one believe in something they dont understand.... He knew they would be disobedient so it makes absolutely no sense...so were to believe something that doesnt make sense? I mean God wouldnt even need to go through all that...just dont put the tree there...much like you would do with a child you knew was going to touch the knife on the counter, dont put it there, gotta have some rational logic here. He does say to prove all things, right?

You know, James, there is something more than human understanding human's brain, it's human's soul. The essence of what or who you are. Some things you can never describe with a simple anwser, with words known to men, and as it is said, we should be meditating day and night on it, that is what keeps us close to Him, to get to know Him! You cannot say oh, that's God, I know Him now. No!

It takes time to get to know Him, maybe God is letting Himself known to you for your whole life and you are to blind to see that, even. That is how it was in my life. I see now why some things had to happen 10 years ago, when at that moment I was sure those things brought only sorrow in my life! And all I can say is thank you Lord for bringing me through it!

That is when you realize God has a purpose for everything, nothing is by coincidence! That is when you get closer to God, want to know more about Him, grab a Bible and start to STUDY it. That is when you realize God had a purpose for that tree in the Eden, we can question it why, but it's about trusting the Lord, not our own understanding.

How can one properly worship a God thats shrouded in mystery and not understood. Or do we go by the status quoa, because thats what were told without any proof or reasoning, thats not faith to me.

I myself can worship only a living God, God that created all the earth and universe, and He is definetly mysterious. He is not in statues and pictures, He is not something you put a label on, He is a living spiritual being. I have faith in Him and His plan my life was for me proof, and once I opened the Bible proof started to stab me in my eyes.

As it is written...how do you even know what is written is even true, have you proven it to youself, thought for yourself, reasoned for yourself?

I really recommend you to get a Bible. I believe KJV Bible is the preserved word of God, and I have read Bible in 3 diffrent languages and diffrent English translations. It is a word of the living God. There is something about it. Do some research how KJV Bible is translated and about Textus Receptus. Diffrent scriptures than what vatican is using and chatolic church. Do some research on the vatican architecture and pope hall, egypt and washington obelisks. See and think about it, meditate on it. Does it seem evil? If there is evil like that and maskarading like good, must there not be one true word of God? Once you give it a try and say okay, is there something, is there so called God, are you there God? I will try it. Than believe me, He will draw nigh unto you. You know the word of God is true because it is talking to you! How crazy it can sound to you, but that is how God works! I get my anwsers daily in the Bible. I will pray for you brother James and I hope you get your anwsers which I never can anwser.

I was a pastor for many years and know the bible well and what it says. Ive traveled all across the US and interacted with many other pastors and religious leaders. The argument from inconsistent revelations contests the existence of the deity called God as described in scriptures —such as the Hindu Vedas, the Jewish Tanakh, the Christian bible, the Muslim Qur'an, the Book of Mormon or the Bahai' Aqdas—by identifying apparent contradictions between different scriptures, within a single scripture, or between scripture and known facts. One needs to give an answer as to why they believe as they do.

For example since you mentioned the soul....you must believe you have an immortal soul right? I mean thats what we were taught right out of scripture correct? What if i told you that i can prove that incorrect using the same bible you study, with one scripture?

Ezekiel 18:20King James Version (KJV)
20 The soul that sinneth, IT SHALL DIE. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. How can something die if its immortal. Death means just that, DEATH...not life somewhere else. It cant mean physical death because we are talking about the soul here. Obviously a soul can die or it wouldnt be in there. If thats not good enough, heres another.
Psalms 146:4
4His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. In other words we have no conciousness after death, parish means to cease to exist.
How about this one...
Ecc. 9:5-6

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
This is what your bible says...obviously we dont have an immortal soul, so where did that teaching come from...obviously this is a contradiction.

I read Proverbs 17 in the KJV. What really spoke to me were vs 15-16 and also 27-28.

There are some people in my life, in fact any of us really, could use the wisdom spoken of in 16 to correct our lives from what 15 says !!! LOL But in this world today there are many who practice openly the fault found in verse 15. And 27 and 28 just go together making perfect sense.

I'll leave it at that because it hasn't yet unfolded as to how this study will be run.

Why the need for a resurrection if your already alive somewhere else, which by the way " And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. John 3:13 So apparently nobody is in heaven....so where are they? This comes right out of the same scriptures you study, right from Jesus' own mouth.

Ummmmmm...it's speaking of in human terms, yes, we "die", returning to the dust from whence we cometh.

Tragic, isn't it?

Then there are all those verses that, beginning in Genesis, speak of One coming Who will crush that ol' serpent's head, and on throughout the entire Bible, how a Savior will be born Who will defeat that ol' serpent, and the curse, and death, and with His rising, give eternal life to those "in" Him.

Great study though.

Thanks for sharing, James.

Now on to Proverbs 17.

God bless you.

Thanks Dave! These are some powerful verses. Earlier, verse 15 caught my eye as well.

Proverbs 17:15 15He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

This speaks to both of us Brinny, Why ? You know it's going to our hearts. What is considered " the wicked" and what is considered "the just" spoken of in this verse ? Is it a speck of each that is an abomination or deeper ? In verse 16 it says to seek wisdom basically, but at what cost ? Proverbs 17:16 16Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? HMMMM !

Interesting, Dave. Yes, that is a good question re: what this verse (and similar verses throughout the Bible) is referring to. Isaiah verses come to mind as well, and those verses that refer to what God finds abominable and wicked, and hates.

Any thoughts on that?

When two parties are in a discussion and one makes a claim that the other disputes, the one who makes the claim typically has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim especially when it challenges a perceived status quo. Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of craziness and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor.
