I bought myself the most beautiful pair of leather gloves with a cross embroidered onto the ring finger on each hand. Christian Gift For Her | Cross Leather Gloves. I have been eager to wear them all week. I wore them to church today only to be criticized by a fellow member.

She tells me that "the crucifix is a symbol of salvation and not a fashion statement."

I wonder if she says that to the millions of people wearing crucifixes on their necks in the form of gold, silver or platinum.

Should I not proudly sport the symbol of my religion for all to see? I finally found an item of clothing that represents my style and my faith and I'm criticized for it.

There aren't too many designers that devote clothing to the Christian faith. Maybe because it's taboo or maybe because Jesus isn't the latest fad.

Whatever the case may be, I just want to be able to wear my gloves and showcase my beliefs like the rest of America without being judged for it, especially by someone who proclaims to follow the teachings of Christ.

If your heart is right with the Lord, then your fashion will only glorify Him further. Of course other saints may not see it that way, but you know you're right with the Lord. God bless kid :).

I suggest that new members spend 20-40 posts helping other people
with problems they have and building up trust and reputation before
they load their fashion problems on strangers. People don't trust
a new member right off the bat with their best fashion advice anyway.

There are people who find others guilty for minor things.

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

The criticism comes from a religious spirit and not the spirit of Christ. How can the one who is criticising you prove that he or she is born again of the Spirit of God when making remarks contrary to the fruit of the Spirit? The Scripture says that those who don't have the spirit of Christ (usually shown by their behaviour toward others) are none of His.

Hi Jessica, first off, WELCOME TO CF ..

I'm an old guy and pretty conservative about most things, but I don't see anything wrong with using the Cross as part of a Christian's choice in fashion, as long as it is tasteful (and your gloves certainly fall well into that category, IMHO ).

I think the idea is to keep to other people's focus off of ourselves and onto Christ in everything we do & say .. cf Matthew 5:16, which would certainly include the fashion statements we choose to make. Again, your gloves, or a little necklace or bracelet with a Cross pendant/charm, etc., seems very appropriate to me. And if gloves can "send the right message", I can't imagine how any gloves could send a better message than your gloves do!!

As for criticism, don't be frustrated by it, instead, kindly thank people for their opinions (if there are any others who feel obliged to give you one, that is ;)), and tell them you'll consider what they have to say. Then go explain what happened to your pastor, show him your new gloves and tell him how much you love them if you'd like to, but then tell him you want to be sure that its ok to wear them in church (perhaps there is a Biblical reason not to wear them that I am unaware of, or perhaps they go against some kind of dress code that your church has in place ).

I can't think of a Biblical reason not to wear them (and I don't think your pastor will have one either). I really like them, but he's the one you need to talk to in this case. Quite frankly, I can't imagine he won't like them too :)

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26)

Yours and His,
David

Hi

Take no notice of her. Wear your gloves with pride. She has no right to put you down. Pray for her.

Wear what you like, when you like, according to your own heart before the Lord and ignore the fashion taliban.

Absolutely 100% certain she once shocked her elders in her turn. Perhaps one day you will find yourself shocked by someone else's choice of clothing. We all get to choose for ourselves, so you rock those gloves with pride. Maybe find a matching hat for next week.

Or behave like an adult and decide for yourself.

We are not Moslems. Men don't get to tell women how to dress, as if we were children. Not even pastors.

Personally, I say wear what you like. Christianity doesn't have a religious dress code. The issue is one entirely of conscience.

That said I can understand concern about how and in what ways we display the cross. As an emblem of our faith, it is reverent and beautiful as we announce the scandalous wonder of the Gospel. From your description, that seems to be exactly what you're doing--so no problem.

Judged @ church and now this. I thought this was a community where I too could find support for my woes. Would Jesus tell me to wait 40 posts before seeking a shoulder?

I agree, it was a female member, but you make a valid point.

David you are completely right about people's opinions, sometimes I take the ones in the house of the lord a little more to the heart than I should.

For your fashion problem? Likely He would provide advice, like not ask other people for fashion advice at all. Be your own person. Consult God, not strangers.
