Hello everybody,

My name is Dave and I'm 23. I've been raised as a Christian in a small town. After traveling the last years in Asia I found several practises which really interest me but I don't know if they are compatible with christianity.

I tried to stay away from it but I keep getting drawn back to the idea of energy healing. Social media has a big influence, the information is everywhere. I talked to several people and half of them say energy healing in specifically Reiki is bad as it is not proven and also not mentioned in the Bible.

However, (I don't know the Bible by heart) but Jesus Christ also did a form of energy healing I think..

Some others told me that it's fine to practise Reiki as long as it feels good, it is not directly related to being a good Christian. In a Facebook Group I got send this post. It doesn't say it's good or bad it just highlights the "facts", I concluded from this that it's okay as long as it feels good.

I am kind in doubt wether I have to continue to go over my interest or just stop here and leave it alone. Anyone here who can help me with good advice on this matter?

Reiki is non-Christian. Reiki leads you AWAY from Jesus Christ.

Reiki, a widely used energy healing technique, was said to have been developed by a Buddhist monk who used cosmic symbols for healing. The use of energy healing encourages us to put our full trust in ourselves and our own bodies, which is a form of worship. For most who participate in energy healing, no recognition is given to the one true God, nor does He receive any praise for healing. The person using these methods of healing has made himself into his own god. Getting involved in energy healing is spiritually dangerous, to say the least.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is the One who came to heal. “Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest'” (Matthew 11:28). God does not want or expect us to help ourselves.

As far as miracles I find the following methods...

1. Listen to the voice of the Lord to discern the situation
2. Issue a power statement based upon the discernment.
3. Pray a power prayer in the name of Jesus based upon the power statement
4. Encourage such a one as in need of a miracle to stay in faith for their miracle.

And a story from Smith Wigglewsorth...

One time while Wigglesworth was abroad he was receiving letters about a certain case, but when he arrived he was told he was too late in which he said, “That cannot be. God has never sent me anywhere too late.” He was introduced to a young man who lay helpless with no hope. The doctor had been to see him that morning and had declared that he would not live through the day. He lay with his face to the wall, and when Wigglesworth spoke to him he whispered, I cannot turn over. His mother said that they had to lift him out of bed on sheets and that he was so frail and helpless that he had to stay in that one position. He said unto the parents believe that your son will rise today, in which they only laughed. Being wintertime he then said to the parents, “Will you get the boy’s suit and bring it here?” In which, expecting the boy to die, they did not listen for from the human viewpoint the young man lay dying. At last he persuaded the parents to bring the boy’s clothes and lay them on the bed

He then spoke to the afflicted one, “God has revealed to me that as I lay my hands on you, the place will be filled with the Holy Spirit, the bed will be shaken, and you will be shaken and thrown out of bed. By the power of the Holy Spirit you will dress yourself and be strong.” He said that to the boy as a power statement to awaken faith.

He then laid hands on him in Jesus name and instantly the power of God fell and filled the place. Wigglesworth then fell helpless to the floor. The father fell, the mother fell, and another who was present fell also. He then heard the young boy pacing about crying, “For your glory, Lord! For your glory, Lord!” He then dressed himself and said, God has healed me! God manifested his power that day in saving the whole household and healing the young man, who would later accept the call to preach the Gospel.

In which I have also sewn in a video...

I highly recommend anyone looking into it to just stop.

The greatest concern would seem to be the identity of the “spirit guides.” Since they are typically contacted in ways expressly forbidden in Scripture, and since they advocate unbiblical ideas and practices, it is honestly quite difficult to view them as anything other than the biblical demons. The authors of this chapter conclude by stating: “Reiki is antithetical to biblical Christianity. Channeling is a way of communicating with spirits to obtain information not otherwise accessible. It is denounced in the Bible as sorcery, mediumship, and spiritism (Lev. 19:26, 31; 20:6; Deut. 18:9-14…).”

KAC and rockytopva are right, all the power of healing, mind, body, and spirit are through Christ only. Anything to do with self healing or channeling is not biblical. Work on a close personal relationship with Jesus, that is where you will find true peace.
God bless you

Stay absolutely as far away from this stuff as possible; even something as simple as acupuncture is profane business to God.

It's all demons doing your bidding. I was involved with energy healing stuff, but the Lord showed me that it's all just mediumship.

Avoid any and every kind of emotional self healing modality - it's just messing with something that belongs to God alone (your heart/emotions - whatever they come from, it's a mystery) using the help of demons. Even physical modalities such as acupuncture or acupressure have the potential to cause emotional/spiritual changes.

reiki is something done apart from God - God is not involved in it

it is better to seek God for the original power to do even better than this

God has always has something better than anything you can find in the world

when something comes from a source apart from God you will eventually end up with some serious trouble on your doorstep because Jesus said the devil came ONLY to steal/kill/destroy and JESUS came to give life abundant

healing using God's power is included in 1 Peter 2:24 and Matthew 10:8 and Luke 9:2 and Mark 16:17-18

laying hands on the sick is what we are commanded to do

and miracles are guaranteed to follow IF we do it under God's authority/instruction

the thing with connecting with God and laying hands on the sick is God's power can perform 1000 times better than any power that does not come from Him

and with God there is no trouble added - it's holy and pure power

but when you use a power that did not come from God there will be trouble to pay somewhere down the line

God Bless you my dear friend

praying for you

Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit of God...Jesus regularly sought his Heavenly Father in prayer, submitted to the Father's Will and did that which honored his Heavenly Father...we are to be like Jesus.

The old motto: If it feels good, do it... too many embrace that type of message and go have affairs, engage in promiscuity etc.
Our motto should be: Let us seek to honor God and uphold His Word in our lives.

I have to add: Brother, if you are in need of this stuff to feel good, I suspect that you perhaps haven't yet, "tasted and seen that the Lord is good", His graces that He gives you by the Spirit are far better than any of these things.

How's your prayer life, and Bible reading habits?

I've had experience with energy healing, and other forms of "feel-goods", but God's grace is much much better.

You're made to enjoy God, therefore aspire and attain to it. :)

Reiki is a gateway into magic and occult. I have a friend who was into Reiki until she met Jesus. She had severe hormonal problems, her hair was falling out, and she'd developed chronic back pain. The Reiki made it worse instead of better. After she found Jesus, a Christian minister laid hands on her, and she was healed of the back pain. She is currently working through deliverance on her hormones.

Your interest should be in where that healing comes from. Healing takes many forms, and can be as simple as walking others through resolving bad habits to logically discerning where in the world you went wrong to get in your current miserable state. Both take experience and understanding from the healer. When you read the bible you will discern that the overall message is to be charitable, patient, and constructive, but first and foremost you must trust God's power. Healing and all of the other godly qualities are found in many different cultures, but none have it mastered. Search out God who has it mastered, and teach others as such.
