Or simply, the study of angels, GOD's messengers. The good ones, not the evil ones.

The Bible has many Scriptures talking about angels. We even learn what they look like! (Which for me is very helpful because I have wanted to paint a picture of an angel). I will list 39 verses that will be about the good, holy angels:

Now here is a word of warning. Not all angels that GOD created are good, some of them are very evil and they will hurt you. This is why GOD forbids you to talk to the dead, because you could pick up an evil spirit that could harm you in untold ways. GOD gave us that commandment for a reason, He is trying to protect us. Because He is the only true Good that there really is. And if you are not saved, you could be possessed by an evil spirit to do evil deeds, and believe me you don't want that either!

Here are some verses about the bad angels:

2 Peter 2:4

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

Jude 1:6
6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

This last one is about the Devil himself. Apparently his sin was arrogance, he became so full of himself that he fell from Heaven! This is why humility is so important.

So what do angels look like?

Answer: Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14), so they do not have any essential physical form. But angels do have the ability to appear in human form. When angels appeared to humans in the Bible, they resembled normal males. In Genesis 18:1-19, God and two angels appeared as men and actually ate a meal with Abraham. Angels appear as men many times throughout the Bible (Joshua 5:13-14; Mark 16:5), and they never appear in the likeness of women.

Other times, angels appeared not as humans, but as something other-worldly, and their appearance was terrifying to those who encountered them. Often, the first words from these angels were “do not be afraid,” because extreme fear was such a common reaction. The keepers of Jesus’ tomb became as dead men when they saw the angel of the Lord (Matthew 28:4). The shepherds in the fields in Luke 2 were “sore afraid” when the angel of the Lord appeared and the glory of the Lord shone around them.

As for physical characteristics, angels are sometimes described as winged. The images of cherubim on the ark of the covenant had wings that covered the mercy seat (Exodus 25:20). Isaiah saw winged seraphim in his vision of the throne of heaven, each one having six wings (Isaiah 6:2). Ezekiel, too, saw visions of winged angels. Isaiah 6:1-2 depicts angels having human features—voices, faces and feet. Angel voices are heard singing and praising God in several other passages. The angel at Jesus’ tomb is described as having a brilliant appearance: “His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow” (Matthew 28:3).

Whatever appearance angels take on, there is reason to believe they are incredibly beautiful. Ezekiel tells us that Lucifer was “lifted up” in pride over his beauty. In addition, beings such as angels, who are continually in the presence of God, would be expected to have extraordinary beauty because God’s glory is reflected upon all that is around Him.

Strong's Hebrew: 4397. מַלְאָך (malak) -- a messenger

Angels in the New Testament age. Found mainly in use by the Essenes (a group of Jews in Jesus' day) that refused identification with the Jewish temple. Their teachings can be found among the Dead Sea schrolls. Each angel was responsible for different foundations of the earth. When the book of Hebrews was written the author pointed out that Jesus was greater than the angels in the same sence that He is greater than any priest or formula. Which is why some believe that the book of Hebrews (river crossers) was written with the Essenes in mind.

Thanks for making this thread. I don't have a big interest in Angelology myself so I hadn't studied this yet, but your references listed some verses I'd forgotten or overlooked when reading the bible, so I learned a few new things.

About twelve years ago I was in a very small Pentecostal Church in the South of England.
We were in the middle of some wonderful spirit led worship when I happened to open my eyes and look across at my friends in the music group at the front.
I suddenly became aware of an additional musician, playing a rectangular stringed instrument on his lap. He had not been there when we started worshipping, but was now sitting behind the lady who was playing the keyboard.
He, and his instrument, and his chair were translucent and glowing.
At the time, I was completely lost in the Holy Spirit and did not for a moment consider this highly unusual.
In fact it temporarily went out of my head till later.

After the meeting, we went as usual around to our musician friends' home for coffee and fellowship. As we were talking, I suddenly recalled what I had seen during the worship time.
After I described it, she added her experience.
She was the keyboard player, and as she was playing she became aware there was music beyond her own or the other players instruments.
Puzzled, she flicked the sustain to zero on her keyboard, yet the notes continued.
She then lifted her hands up in the air, still the playing continued.
She then turned around in her seat to see the angel sitting behind her, playing his instrument just as I described.
