Repent and be obedient to the laws of god

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
Articles of Faith 1

In its fulness, the gospel includes all the doctrines, principles, laws, ordinances, and covenants necessary for us to be exalted in the celestial kingdom.
The Savior has promised that if we endure to the end, faithfully living the gospel, He will hold us guiltless before the Father at the Final Judgment (see 3 Nephi 27:16).

The fulness of the gospel has been preached in all ages when God's children have been prepared to receive it. In the latter days, or the dispensation of the fulness of times, the gospel has been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Gospel | Principles and Ordinances of the Gospel

  1. He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:
  2. 1.
    We must be baptized.

  3. 2.
We must receive the laying on of hands to be confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

  4. 3.
Brethren must receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and magnify their callings in the priesthood.

  5. 4.
We must receive the temple endowment.

  6. 5.
We must be married for eternity, either in this life or in the next.

  1. In addition to receiving the required ordinances, the Lord commands all of us to:
  2. 1.
    Love God and our neighbors.

  3. 2.
    Keep the commandments.

  4. 3.
    Repent of our wrongdoings.

  5. 4.
Search out our kindred dead and receive the saving ordinances of the gospel for them.

  6. 5.
Attend our Church meetings as regularly as possible so we can renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament.

  7. 6.
Love our family members and strengthen them in the ways of the Lord.

  8. 7.
Have family and individual prayers every day.

  9. 8.
Teach the gospel to others by word and example.

  10. 9.
    Study the scriptures.

  11. 10.
Listen to and obey the inspired words of the prophets of the Lord.
Finally, each of us needs to receive the Holy Ghost and learn to follow His direction in our individual lives.

  • How do ordinances and covenants prepare us for exaltation?

  • How does faith in Jesus Christ help us obey the commandments?

  • Why must we learn to follow the direction of the Holy Ghost to become exalted?
After We Have Been Faithful and Endured to the End
  • What happens when we have endured to the end in faithful discipleship to Christ?
The Lord has said, “If you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God” (D&C 14:7). President Joseph Fielding Smith said, “If we will continue in God; that is, keep his commandments, worship him and live his truth; then the time will come when we shall be bathed in the fulness of truth, which shall grow brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:36).
Gospel Principles Chapter 47: Exaltation

People seem to leave a lot of details out when they answer non-Mormons' questions.

lds.org goes into more detail!

You are welcome to the opinion. I disagree personally, but respect your opinion as well.

Wish you well!
There is no false religion or false teacher on earth, practically,
where
the followers of the false teachers agree that they have been deceived,
until
AFTER they found out that they have been utterly deceived.
God is NO RESPECTER of persons, and no one's opinion matters.

And still no straight-forward answer to what I said...
Really? (I didn't even see what you said) ....
What would ever be an acceptable "straight-forward answer"
to anyone anywhere
who follows other gods or idols , contrary to all Scripture, opposed to Jesus ?

i.e. perhaps someone has posted already, many times, "straight-forward" answers, over and over and over again (not just in this thread, but in many threads)....
and all through many generations....
but the world , and the heathen, and the pagan religions, don't accept the truth... until YHWH takes the veil away and reveals the truth to them, (same as everyone , always, not just some - YHWH'S taking the veil away is required for Jew and gentile alike, for all men, everywhere, if they are to know the truth)

I note that you didn't look for the original citation, which very much exists:

Joseph Smith's Alleged 56-Year Second Coming Prophecy - Revision - SHIELDS

"I was once praying earnestly upon the subject. and a voice said unto me. My son, if thou livest till thou art 85 years of age, thou shalt see the face of the son of man.--I was left to draw my own conclusion concerning this & I took the liberty to conclude that if I did live till that time he would make his appearance.--but I do not say whether he will make his appearance or I shall go where he is."

Shazam. The prophecy was dependent upon Joseph being allowed to live until he as 85.

It's actually a full-on academic level paper on the matter if you want to read it.
Which is actually quite humorous. Jesus' second coming is "dependent" upon Smith living to 85?? The all-knowing God doesn't even know if Smith will make it to 85? The all-knowing God, who knows our first and last breaths, knows our hearts and thoughts, even before we do, who knows all things, doesn't know that Smith will be killed well before age 85? The mormon god doesn't know much and makes a mockery of the all-knowing, all-seeing, One and Only True God.

Smith got it wrong. No level of academic papers will change that fact.

So you're cool with mainline Christian ministers telling their members to go beat people who disagree with them?

...who still allows people their free choice...
...who also knows what choices those people will make, before they make them...

Matthew 24 warns about false prophets and false Christs proclaiming when Jesus will return. ONLY the Father knows when, and it's not dependent on any one living human being living to a certain age. Besides, in the 1800's, the gospel had not been preached to the whole world, which is one of the requirements for Jesus to return.

Stick your head in the sand if you want, but Joseph Smith was dead wrong.

I believe yes, that is what Jesus said also, something like : It is not I Who Will Judge you, but the Word that I Have Spoken.... I will not send you to the lake of fire/ judgment/ condemnation - it is your own choice and your own deeds that do this (in your "free will" you may choose eternal death - resurrection to shame and judgment) ...
And , in line with all of God's Word, that is exactly what most people in their "free will" choose - eternal death, as God's Word says.

.... , contrary to all Scripture, opposed to Jesus ?

Who is opposed to Jesus?

Just a small sample of the love of Jesus found in the Book of Mormon;
Omni
26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.

Jacob 1
6 And we also had many revelations, and the spirit of much prophecy; wherefore, we knew of Christ and his kingdom, which should come.
7 Wherefore we labored diligently among our people, that we might persuade them to come unto Christ, and partake of the goodness of God, that they might enter into his rest, lest by any means he should swear in his wrath they should not enter in, as in the provocation in the days of temptation while the children of Israel were in the wilderness.
8 Wherefore, we would to God that we could persuade all men not to rebel against God, to provoke him to anger, but that all men would believe in Christ, and view his death, and suffer his cross and bear the shame of the world;

Alma 7
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions andtemptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.
14 Now I say unto you that ye must repent, and be born again; for the Spirit saith if ye are not born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.

Is this the Jesus you're talking about:

Doctrine and Covenants 24
15 And in whatsoever place ye shall enter, and they receive you not in my name, ye shall leave a cursing instead of a blessing, by casting off the dust of your feet against them as a testimony, and cleansing your feet by the wayside.

16 And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall lay their hands upon you by violence, ye shall command to be smitten in my name; and, behold, I will smite them according to your words, in mine own due time.

17 And whosoever shall go to law with thee shall be cursed by the law.

Well yeah;
Matt 10
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
