What are you fighting for as a Christian? What are you waiting for?

I don't see much of a fight or a wait.

I hear this talk all the time and I just don't get it.

I believe in a fight and I believe in a waiting (the second coming of Jesus). I'll just address the waiting part, which sometimes has an approach that I don't understand either.

I've been hearing about waiting for this world to pass, as if we were here waiting indefinitely, going through generations of suffering. Since we have a longevity limit, we know beforehand the maximum time we will be waiting here. The most that I'll wait for Jesus will be until I'm 120, which is highly improbable. I believe humanity is waiting for Jesus to return, I might be able to see it, but I don't wait for it as if God owed me a schedule. I know people who are frustrated for this waiting, who talk with what to me sounds resentment towards God. I don't get this feeling of waiting forever. (When I was 13 I understood it, but now I'm much older and don't see a 70 year old as if he were here since the beginning of ages.)

This all reminds me of the Warren Barfield - Love Is Not a Fight song from the movie Fireproof. Anyway, in the bigger scheme of things I could say a lot of things that may sound cliche but are still true... Like waiting for a wife or the return of Jesus, etc. But in the day to day I'm living now I would have say I'm waiting to enter a discipleship scenario that's a bit more formal than Sunday school, small groups, Sunday worship etc.

Fighting to know the Truth. It's very difficult to know the truth these days with all the lies flying around.

I'm NOT talking about the news. I'm talking about our real purpose as people.... The majority just eat, work, sleep, settle, get married, have kids, enjoy life a little....

...When there is so much evil in the world we do nothing about and even tolerate!

We are supposed to follow Jesus and Jesus stood up against, even violently opposed evil like when He drove away people selling at the Temple with a whip.

We are portraying a vastly different image of Christ that He didn't deserve because it's false!

In scripture the Christian life is referred to as the “good fight”. (1 Tim 1:18.) This fight is internal as well as external. We fight against sin and our own fallen natures, and against the “strongholds of evil”, the many things that actively prevents people from accepting the truth of the gospel. (2 Cor 10:3-16.)

When it comes to “waiting on God”, well, this is an essential part of to the Christian walk. The Bible is full of stories about people who waited for God to fulfill his promises to them. There’s also a ton of injunctions / promises about waiting for him. I guess “waiting for God” is used synonymously for trusting in God, as for instance in Psalm 37:

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” (verse 5.)

Ultimately we wait for the Second Coming, but “waiting on God” is about more than waiting for the parousia. We wait for God in situations where our own abilities and resources are insufficient, where we don’t clearly see a way forward.
