In scripture the Christian life is referred to as the “good fight”. (1 Tim 1:18.) This fight is internal as well as external. We fight against sin and our own fallen natures, and against the “strongholds of evil”, the many things that actively prevents people from accepting the truth of the gospel. (2 Cor 10:3-16.)
When it comes to “waiting on God”, well, this is an essential part of to the Christian walk. The Bible is full of stories about people who waited for God to fulfill his promises to them. There’s also a ton of injunctions / promises about waiting for him. I guess “waiting for God” is used synonymously for trusting in God, as for instance in Psalm 37:
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” (verse 5.)
Ultimately we wait for the Second Coming, but “waiting on God” is about more than waiting for the parousia. We wait for God in situations where our own abilities and resources are insufficient, where we don’t clearly see a way forward.
