My personal Lenten discipline this year will focus on Christ's Lordship and my abstaining from certain things that I would normally overindulge in. I've sworn off of meat on Fridays and I say the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Lutheran Rosary on Friday.

As my pastor said during the Ash Wednesday Service, this is a good time for us to reflect on what Jesus did for us during his life on earth, how He gave us the Gospel and how he sacrificed his life for us, even to the point of suffering a Roman crucifixion. Even though I slip and fall many more times than I even know, Jesus is always there with that wondrous forgiveness He offers so freely. May we all have a blessed Lenten season.

Our pastor challenged us as a congregation to zero tolerance of gossip for lent.

I also enjoy the Lutheran Rosary mysteries.

Welcome to CF and the Lutheran sub-forums :)

I'm endeavoring to clean up my act in healthful living, especially my diet, and devotional consistency. I've been listening to recordings of the chanted penitential psalms and also the psalms of ascent. I have been following daily lectionary readings and reading a couple of different lenten devotional series. I'm also looking forward to attending mid-week services this lenten season.

I am fairly new to the world of Lutheranism. As such, never before have I had a daily devotional, and trying to get that going has been a challenge, but I am persevering using Luther's "Faith Alone", General Editor James C. Galvin. I'm also reading Schmidt's "Hallmarks of Lutheran Identity" and the Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics book on Baptism. They sure keep my non-working hours busy as can be.

In addition, I'm taking a beginner's course on Koine Greek and if I can ever get my homework done, I'll have a full time vocation of STUDY.
