Since I read this thread I have been doing some studying on this topic. The commandments of Christ to forsake all in order to follow Him have given my heart great trouble in the past and even now. Sometimes I wonder If I am really carrying this out.
That being said, it is definitely implied in quite a few places that it is not unbecoming of Christians to have a home.
Philemon 1:2,3
To the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:22a, 34
What? Do you not have houses to eat and drink in?...
But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgement. And the rest I will set in order when I come.
As I write this I am still studying the topic, and It is apparent that there are so many examples of Christians living in a house. Just search house or home on blueletterbible.org
This all being said, it does seem that the way that early christians lived together is very lacking in my own life. I gather with other believer on Sundays and Wednesdays, but have for some time now felt like I am lacking something that the early christians had. It does seem that the houses that are spoken of in all the books after the gospels were possibly filled with christians, which would go along very well with what Jesus said.
Mark 10:29,30
Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospels, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time- houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions- and in the age to come, eternal life.
