I'm still relatively new to Orthodoxy (chrismated Lazarus Saturday 2015) so I'm not sure I understand the mechanics nor history behind the pre-Sanctified Liturgies.

That said, it was amazing to me (again) just how deep, moving, and powerful these Liturgies are. The preparation for Pascha adds to the hugeness of the Feast that was sorely lacking n my previous tradition.

They are amazing, basically it like a extended Vespers, but everything is read, or sung in a very low key manner, to show reverence. To those new to Orthodoxy, you will love the midnight service, when the lights go out, the candles are lit, and everyone sings "Christ is risen", that sold me on Orthodoxy last year.

In Orthodoxy both Saturday (the Sabbath) and Sunday (Lord''s Day) are festive days so the D.L. can be celebrated. But it is forbidden to celebrate the DL during Lent weekdays because of its more somber nature. So the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts is served.

Man, it's killing me that I'm missing these. Such beautiful services!
I haven't been able to make one yet. I go on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and with Church almost an hour away, I can't go EVERY day. And last year we were having them in the fellowship hall when I attended because the Church had construction going on. I have really got to try and make it next week, God willing.

Thank you for that.

as my Liturgics professor says, the usual Liturgies we ascend to God, but in the pre-sanctfied God descends to us.
I like that. For me there's a different sense of 'awe' in the Liturgy of pre-sanctified Gifts. Maybe it's because of some of the 'traditions (for lack of a better word)' surrounding it. Such as; in our parish when the gifts are processed, the congregation is prostrate - I dare not even look.

ALSO:
In our parish there is a custom of having a lenten meal afterwards. Different members of the parish sign up and provide food for everyone. Not only do we have the special time of worship, but there's the fellowship afterwards. Last year, we teamed up with another couple the week of St. Patrick's Day and made lenten dishes from a Celtic/Irish background.

I've been going to Pre-Sanctified with a local Orthodox Community - and we have home made soup and bread , with coffee and fruit afterwards , sadly we can only manage this on Wednesdays :(

Tomorrow we will have Divine Liturgy with Commemoration of the Deceased, and afterwards we will be having a light Fasting lunch - sometimes a hot pasta dish - sometimes it's cold food , but it's always very good and we have a lot of chat with each other and the Priest.

For the same reason wine and oil are permitted on the weekend days.
