And selfinflikted's earlier tongue-in-cheek post about men bring unable to control their lust as the reason women shouldn't go topless is duly demonstrated. Seriously, is an attractive woman wearing daisy duke shorts and a bikini top any less "distracting" than that same woman going topless?

Seriously, and the idea that this will cause such a massive increase in traffic accidents as to send the insurance world into a downward spiral is a bit.. over the top.

Going topless is a health risk as it exposes more skin to the rays of the sun which leads to increased instances of skin cancer which then becomes a burden on the health care system raising prices for all in order to accommodate the reckless behavior of a very few

I don't think that the tiny bits of cloth in the typical bikini significantly reduce skin cancer rates.

To my knowledge automobile accidents did not increase significantly in Europe when when women started going topless on European beaches. I am also unaware of significant increases in auto insurance rates in New York when it became legal for women to go topless there. Do you have any facts to back up your claim?

One of the better arguments against it I've heard went along the lines of - toplessness laws when instituted don't have any age restrictions on them. In other words, if men can go topfree, then so too can boys.

Given how paedophile-hysteric modern society is, I don't think people pushing for this would be so wild about the idea of underage pubescent girls walking around topless.

Alternatively, if we got people to relax about both female nudity and moral panicking over paedophiles, that could be a win-win.

The instances of people driving without insurance would sky rocket and create serious problems as a society.

Not if the payouts are industry wide. A single insurance company would be concerned if the payouts were relegated to their own company but that would not be the case in your hypothetical situation of upper torso nudity causing more accidents. Since their product is mandatory by law for purchase by everyone that wishes to use a motor vehicle on the public thoroughfare, there is no elasticity to demand so all they need to do to cover increased payouts is to increase prices. The public will pay or not drive. And the public is not disposed to give up their automobile.

First woman posting in the thread. Honestly- the fact that this thread topic has all these guys jumping in with all their opinions pro and con should tell women all we need to know. You're too invested in this issue for your own good.

ETA: I'm sure y'all will be all over your grannies and mothers getting right on that. Let 'em know you approve.

ETA again: Most people base their arguments with good looking people in mind. Rarely does anyone think they'll be looking at the People of Walmart reality- and what is seen can never be unseen- and nobody wants to see all that.

People that can already just barely afford their insurance are not going to stop driving. People have to drive for everything these days. So it would result in more people driving without insurance.

I haven't driven in over a year. Not too many people absolutely need to drive. If theydo, then they need to drive responsibly.

But why would females going topless increase insurance rates?

As for post #1 do keep in mind that while it is more socially accepted for men to walk around shirtless in public than women, there are some social sensibilities restricting men from parading around topless anywhere in public.

I think in most cases, most settings, men are expected to wear a shirt or some to covering like a jacket.

Given how paedophile-hysteric modern society is, I don't think people pushing for this would be so wild about the idea of underage pubescent girls walking around topless.

Actually, that is good point.

Yeah, that is another good point to consider. If for no other reason people tend to care about these sorts of things related to looks.

Well, I think the same applies to guys topless too, honestly. but we deal with the horribly ugly (no offense to anyone ^_^) guys doing it. Why would that change with the ugly, "people of walmart"-esque women joining in?

Also...to the topic in general...I don't really care. If they wanna go topless let them. I just don't care. That said, I don't really want to see them topless, but that is me. I don't really count in the typical population of guys on that subject. :p

Perhaps we need to institute laws requiring everyone to cover up completely. Perhaps universal burkas? Especially males who have flaunted their legal ability to bare their, often unsightly, naked torsos. The second amendment be damned no bare arms either. Some might say these measures would be somewhat of an overreaction but I would agree with the governor of my state who I am sure might say something like "You don't need ten hours of sun to get a tan and too many people have died already". I hope I'm not being to subtle for you here to get my point.

I really do not see a reason why would woman go on topless in public. Why would they do that? I think it is only to provoke. Man are not allowed to go shirtless on public here in Romania so why would woman? And yes, man can get lustful by watching them, you have to be altruist and think about other people's salvation in Christ, if you go over there provoking then man will get lustful thoughts and all sort of sinful thoughts can go on their mind. I'm not saying you should war a burka, i'm just saying you should wear SOMETHING, not getting topless... I may sound old-fashioned, but why would a christian girl want to go topless on the street? So you can get awkward compliments from creepy old man and make people stare at you...

Actually, women working outdoors in rural areas sometimes go topless for the same reason men do: because it's cooler. I've seen women and girls topless in the central valley of California on hot days, helping their husbands stack wood or feeding dairy cows. It's not common, but it happens.

As far as the insurance issues go...after a month of toplessness, no one will notice!

Surprized by that fact. I thought our sisters would be all over this. After all, they are the ones directly affected by it.

I hear you on that.
