Here in NC, they closed a polling place on a college campus. Two reasons: students lean Democratic and it's a historically black university. It's sad that that so much is being done to prevent people from voting.

That was discussed in this thread after those efforts were made public.

And it wasn't just one campus, but two.

How do they check the ID of the person who fills out the ballot by mail?

Well, funny you should mention that, apparently absentee ballots are where most voter fraud actually *happens*.

And yet it's still very rare. In addition, vote-by-mail has shown to increase the voter turnout.

Virginia is yet another state where the where the Republicans have undermined the democratic process by "gerrymandering" the House electoral districts in 2010.

During the 2012 election the Republicans received 1,876,761 (50.2%) of the popular vote but were rewarded with 8 of Virginia's 11 congressional seats in the House.

During the 2012 election the Democrats received 1,806,025 (48.3%) of the popular vote but received only 3 of Virginia's 11 congressional seats in the House.

In Virginia it takes 602 008 Democratic votes to obtain one congressional seat in the House, but only 234 595 Republican votes to obtain one congressional seat.

Instead of addressing this obvious inequity, the state Republicans are more interested in introducing voter ID - despite the fact that there has not been one reported case of voter impersonation in Virginia since 2000.

The only case of absentee ballot fraud in Virginia since 2000 was that of a campaign official in 2006 - Ben Ellis Cooper.

Cooper, the ex-mayor of Appalachia, was charged with election fraud including vote buying, absentee ballot fraud and campaign fraud.

There have been only 35 reported cases of election fraud in Virginia since 2000.

The main problem with voter ID laws is they're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist in a way that doesn't fix it.

The end result is voter suppression. Period.

Plain and simple.

The voter suppression laws canard is exactly that, a canard. Liberal Democrats promote this meme in order to heard particular groups of people into fearing the evil Republican menace coming to take everything away from them. But it is nothing but a cold calculated lie proffered again and again by a political party advancing an agenda.

Democrats are agenda advancing liars while Republicans would NEVER do such a thing (I do declare). Got it

And the lie continues. My God, you want us to believe a college student who had no trouble getting both a driver's license and a University ID somehow is incapable of showing either at the voting booth?

It's pretty weird isn't it? Not being able to use your student ID but things like an NRA card is totally legit.

Why do you suppose that's the case when you yourself advocate student ID's?

FYI, the voting ID requirements are as follows:

**Virginia voter registration card
**Valid Virginia driver's license
**Military ID
**Any Federal, Virginia state or local government-issued ID
**Employer issued photo ID card
**Concealed handgun permit
**Valid student ID issued by any institution of higher education located in the Commonwealth of Virginia
**Current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck indicating the name and address of the voter
**Social Security card (*please note the social security card does not satisfy special federal ID requirements)

I would think this is a fair set to have. Trying to reduce it down past this would almost certainly be an attempt to prevent certain legal voting groups from getting to the ballot box.
