21 And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.
Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 5:21

22 But there is a law given, and a punishment affixed, and a repentance granted; which repentance, mercy claimeth; otherwise, justice claimeth the creature and executeth the law, and the law inflicteth the punishment; if not so, the works of justice would be destroyed, and God would cease to be God.
Book of Mormon, Alma 42:15

The Book of Mormon is a racist book:

5.2 Nephi 30:6 (Prophecy to Lamanites) ". . . scales of darkness shall begin to fall . . . they shall be a white and delightsome people." (Changed to pure and delightsome in 1981)
6.Jacob 3:5 (Lamanites cursed) ". . .whom ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins. . ."
7.Jacob 3:8-9 ". . .their skins will be whiter than yours . . . revile no more against them because of the darkness of their skins . . ."
8.Alma 3:6 ". . . skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion. . ."

5.2 Nephi 30:6 (Prophecy to Lamanites) ". . . scales of darkness shall begin to fall . . . they shall be a white and delightsome people." (Changed to pure and delightsome in 1981)

Didn't you notice that both say SCALES of darkness? In other words the "skin" is not talking about skin color but a spiritual appearance of darkness like Job experienced when no one wanted to talk to him. It is speaking of countenance, demeanor, spiritual state of being. It is saying this skin is a covering or scales that will be lifted with the light of Christ. Then they will be made white, pure and clean in Christ. It is not talking about a change in the color of their bodily skin.

Dan 11:35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

Lam 5:10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
Lam 5:11 They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.
Lam 5:12 Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.
Lam 5:13 They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.
Lam 5:14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.
Lam 5:15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
Lam 5:16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

Jude 1:13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, יהוה cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Jude 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are wicked among them of all their wicked deeds which they have wicked committed, and of all their hard speeches which wicked sinners have spoken against him.
Jude 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
Jude 1:17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Master Yahushua the Messiah;
Jude 1:18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own wicked lusts.
Jude 1:19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

The spirit teaches the symbolism used in the Bible by God:
Lam 4:6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
Lam 4:7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
Lam 4:8 Their[daughter] visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

Or I guess God is racist....

Daniel 11:35 says nothing about skin.

I think it borders on deceitful for you to omit those Bible passages I quote that do. Here's some more that show skin of blackness is not about skin color but purity

Job 30:28 I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.
Job 30:29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.
Job 30:30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
He is saying God has loathed him, made Him sad, cursed him, and turned him black to be a hiss and a byword.

The virgin building of the temple.
Song 1:1 The song of songs, which is Solomon's.
Song 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.
Song 1:3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
Song 1:4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
Song 1:5 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.
Song 1:6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

Yes this is very sad - to make God be a raciest and to make dark skin people think they are under a curse.

At the very beginning of the Bible it says that on the 6th day God created the RACES - every race upon the earth was created on the 6th day.

God didn't create races on the sixth day. He created Adam and Eve.

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Yeah, they omit the parts that show God is not being racist but is using symbolism.

2 Nephi 26:33 For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.

When the dark-skinned people come to Christ, their skin will change to white:

8 O my brethren, I fear that unless ye shall repent of your sins that their skins will be whiter than yours, when ye shall be brought with them before the throne of God.
Book of Mormon, Jacob 3

6 And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and a delightsome people.
Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 30:6 (1961)

Yep, exactly. They will still be Africans, or Indians, or Aboriginies, or Islanders, or Eskimoes, etc but their scales of darkness shall fall away. They shall be a pure and delightsome people, but still people of color. Those of understanding shall be tried and made white.

Isa 29:18 And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

Isa 42:6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
Isa 42:7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

People that actually read their Bibles would know that it is "symbolism" of ones "countenance" and spirit when reading the Book of Mormon descriptions.

The Bible also uses the words "garments" as a descriptor in contrast to the Book of Mormon's "skin" usage.

Psalms 104: 1 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

Isaiah 52: 1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

Eccl. 9: 8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.

Isaiah 61: 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Daniel 7: 9 ¶I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

Rev.3: 4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Anyone that can't see that the Bible uses the same exact kinds of symbolism, but with a different "symbol" simply has problems. Sadly hypocrisy and true bigotry is alive and well.

Isa 29:24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

Bible....

  • Garment
  • Black
  • Because of Sin

  • Garment
  • White
  • Because of Righteousness

Scripture Symbolism...

The Book of Mormon simply uses "skin" instead of Garment.
If one actually knows ancient native cultures, "skins" are referred to in relation to "clothing" also.

Nice try.

“But let them apostatize, and they will become gray-haired, wrinkled, and black, just like the Devil" (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 332

WHY MEN ARE BORN TO DIFFERENT RACES. We are the children of God. He loves us. He loves all men whether they be white or black. No matter what their color, no matter what the conditions under which they were born and reared, the Lord looks upon all his children in mercy and will do for them just the best that he can....

There is a reason why one man is born black and with other disadvantages, while another is born white with great advantages. The reason is that we once had an estate before we came here, and were obedient; more or less, to the laws that were given us there. Those who were faithful in all things there [pre-existence] received greater blessings here, and those who were not faithful received less. . . . There were no neutrals in the war in Heaven. All took sides either with Christ or with Satan. Every man had his agency there, and men receive rewards here based upon their actions there, just as they will receive rewards hereafter for deeds done in the body.
Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 1:61, 65; (emphasis added)

The Negro, evidently, is receiving the reward he merits.
Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 1:66; (emphasis added).

"the Lord looks upon all his children in mercy and will do for them just the best that he can...."

Apparently the lds god is not omnipotent.

Moving goal posts..... Nice try at race baiting.....

The scripture is the scripture, you wanting to make us and it racist is not our problem.
Those are the facts. If you can't handle the facts, then move on.

Brigham's quote has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, he's talking about the pre-mortal life that it has some effect on our habitation here on the earth. Whether black skin does or doesn't, that's ANOTHER discussion. LDS believe he was wrong in that judgment, but right in the doctrine itself, which is pre-mortal life does have an effect on where we ended up being placed on this earth. What effect, we don't know.

this is very disturbing! to make God a racist ... for shame!

no doubt what i'm about to post has been posted before, but i'm going to anyway so i know it has ...

Genesis 1:27 ... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female he created them.

Geneis 2:2 ... And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work he had made.

Genesis 2:7 ... And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

one can not (but some will) deny there are two creations of man here ... on the 6th day He created the races (ethnos) ... He saw that is was good and created them in His image ... He is NOT a racist ...

in all cultures the languages are spoken with isms ... little sayings of the culture ... it is a Hebrewism to say my heart is blackened ... it means to be deeply affected with passion ... it's figure of speech ... to make it anything else when it isn't is just a lie ... it also means to mourn ... to even insinuate that God made someone black as a punishment or whatever is being insinuated here is just shameful ... He loves ALL His children ... good grief, isn't there enough division in the world without creating more ... yeah, there probably is a reason for the colors, but i know it isn't because He's racist ... how very sad ...

Last time I checked Satan was still a spirit, and can't be a black man. He can be a black spirit, which of course has nothing to do with skin color. I'm sure BY understood this.

You know this is kinda like saying a once happy, gay man is now a homosexual because society changed the meaning of the words. Or the biblical usage of the word ass....
