• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Im new here. I was diagnosed with Bipolar while I was in the military. Im have attempted to fast on several occassion ( sometimes I do a fast abstaining from food, and sometimes I do a social media fast- i fast from Facebook, Twitter, and the internet). They always seem to end really bad. I end up in a really depressive mood, and dont feel I have gotten close to God. Has anyone here been able to go on a fast without your bipolar getting in the way?

My depressive side is a fast. When I get depressed enough I don't eat or even get hungry. Last time I had something horrible happen in my life I dropped around 70lbs without trying. This time I am a little better off than that but I have lost some weight. Its ok though cause I could use to loose some weight.

I am bipolar and I have been able to fast . I spend a lot of time in prayer before I fast . And I only fast if I feel the Lord telling me to do so . If I try to fast and do not feel God is in it then it will fail . I only fast when it is lead by God . So search your heart before your fast and make sure it is what God is wanting you to do at the time and not something you are just wanting to do . God will let you know .

Well Ms. Chryslee I'm former Army. I am bipolar due to brain damage at Fort Bragg, NC. Fasting which causes mood swings could also be diabetes- which I was just diagnosed with February 28, 213. So I can't fast- if I do I can go into a coma and die. I suggest you have a fasting blood draw and see what the doc's say about diabetes see if that helps.
