GXG,

Not to burst your bubble or anything. But its unlikely that Dwyane Wade is Orthodox. While I've seen this written in wiki, I have never found any confirmation for it whatsoever. He is a christian, I believe he attends his mother's protestant church which he bought for her. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I HATE the Miami Heat, absolutely loath them. Dwyane Wade can't be Orthodox! Say t'aint so! If he is, then I'd have to admit to SOME good on that team!

^_^:p I keep forgetting my pal, Matt, is a Penn guy.

Ok, here's the deal----I have NO PROBLEM with Pennsylvania fans pulling for Pennsylvania teams. If I grew up in Penn, I'd be a raging fan!

But here in California, and only in this nutty state, do we have weirdos who pull for out-of-state teams to a high, silly degree! I'm serious when I say, it's insane! There are Steelers fans, Yankees fans, Bulls and Bears fans, and A ZILLION COWBOYS FANS here! It's ridiculous! Celtics fans all over. Californians are infamously disloyal to their franchises. Why? heck if I can say!

Anyway, I'm tired of the Steelers fans here who never have even been to Pennsylvania!:o

But also, I'm not a fan. I always thought they were a bit of a thuggish team. Can't stand Worthlessburger. Liked Ward though. Any guy who has played for both the Steelers AND the Gotham Rogues, well, you have to respect him. Cower was a standup guy, too. I'll take 'em over the Pats any day! ^_^

well, that's just because when the steel mills closed, the fans moved but never left their team. we are everywhere.

and as far as being thuggish, you must have us confused with the Ravens. it's okay, it happens when you have a hard hitting defense.

I'm here in south central PA but there's this weird Dolphins cult in my area that needs exorcised...^_^

Same here, at least two of my co-workers (well, one's actually my boss) are die hard Cowboys fans, even though this is Niner country.

I guess you can keep on hating them, But until someone changes that wiki entry, he's Orthodox who tithes 10% of his income to his baptist church, lol.

Had a feeling that was the case - as I mentioned earlier others assumed on the wiki that he was Orthodox because of his references to the Trinity. But in light of what he did for his mother and the fact that nothing else directly known on the issue has revealed itself, one can only go so far.

No bad news, of course, as Dwayne still rocks

Well, when you say "they," if you're referring to my lowly Warriors, then you're ok. If you're saying "they" referring to my beloved Giants, we've been a dominant team in the past 5 years, and downright nasty in 2010 and 2012. The Niners have also a proud legacy of 5 rings, plus dominance and return to glory in the past couple years with next year looking again to be up and hopeful, possibly going all the way again. Sharks? I'm not a hockey guy, just had to represent! LOL...they've had their moments.
Never dug the Warriors (although I thought the film called "The Warriors") was much more engaging.. And on the Giants, can't really dig them either. They got their behinds handed to them last year with Atlanta Falcons - whom I have never really thought highly of - and that defeat was shameful. But with the Giants, IMHO, they frequently seem to have a "Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde" compelx where they do good one moment...and then bomb horribly the next. To me, they're very small in symbolism of greatness.

Yeah...I said it,

As with the Sharks, I'll give them grace since they were cool. With the Niners, they'll always have my respect for what they've done..and growing up as a Niners fan, I admit I'm biased on that.

Yeah, But the baptists do believe in the Trinity, correct? Maybe it's meant to say he believes in orthodox Christianity as in lower case "o"?
I don't think Baptism do a lot of physical actions in regards to the Holy Trinity - but in any case, I do wonder how Dwayne made it to wiki in the first place. Couldn't find it verified anywhere else and I figured it was perhaps an edit by someone who didn't know.

Unfortunately, the Sharks will always be associated in my mind with Bryan Marchment - a dirty player who liked to take out the knees (as in severe injuries) of opposing players.

Don't know if you're aware of it - but have you ever come across any ideologies that believe groups called the Illumanit/"Shadow Government" groups control the Sports industry and are trying to use the world of sports to distract others?

Not saying I'm for every single thing that comes up in the name of "conspiracy" - but it is interesting when you keep up with some of the sports industry celebrities and see a lot of the symbols they keep throwing up.

There often seems to be more going on in the world of sports than many realize, IMHO.

At my parish, Troy Palomalu is a type of Olympian GOD because he's Orthodox. I could care LESS! I hate the Pittsburgh Squeelers. I could care less if Pittsburgh drafted the Patriarch of Serbia, Irenej, as their new QB with the Ecumenical Patriarch on special teams, I'd still pull against 'em! LOL....

Go Niners!:thumbsup::cool:

You wouldn't...they'd be loosing so much that even you would take pity on them.

Not sure where you're coming from, bro. The Giants have no Jekyll and Hyde complex. If you've followed MLB for the last six years or so, you'll see a Giants team that has steadily cultivated a farm system up through the ranks and built a hard defense to beat coupled with a humble offense that gets the job done in a pinch. We had a long, exciting road to the World Series in 2010 and I never saw a J&H aspect at all. They kept the pitching strong up to that last regular season game with the Padres, and the offense, though meagre, came alive at the right moments. That's the definition of champion, being clutch. The next year had a lot of injuries, namely Buster Posey's cataclysmic awful injury that put him out the entire season! We also had lost Cody Ross and some other guys. We refueled, got Buster back and healthy, added some new faces, and won another World Series in 2012. The Giants had been in the World Series in 2002 and lost, and have, for the last decade or so, been a respectable, solid team. I don't see the J&H thing in the least. Unless you're talking about the New York football Giants! LOL...but I doubt that since I never mentioned them in my post to which you were replying! LOL

The 49ers are working up poco a poco each year toward a Superbowl. i personally think we were robbed on that last no-call play and several facemask violations were called on us but not on the Ravens. Next year we're going to be on fire! Every indication from the team so far is super positive!

Sharks? Well, I'm not a hockey fan, but had to throw up the Bay Area team, dude! ^_^

Warriors, last time they won was the year I was born---1975. They're going to be in the playoffs. Love Steph Curry, love David Lee as well as Jarrett Jack and Klay Thompson.....but with their jump-shooting-only game and a little lacking in the D category, I don't think we'll make it all the way. I can hope though! I see it as OKC or Spurs vs. the Heat, and i hope either team OBLITERATES MIAMI!!!! hate that team...can't stand LeBron the Queen either! Dude's got no sportsmanship until he wins!

The link below will take you to a bookseller's page for a book that is a memoir about an autistic young man competing in little league baseball. He went on to play hardball at the high school level and was also in the starting pitching rotation. He is a devout Orthodox Christian.

Truthfully, as much as I like the Heats in some ways, there are other teams which I think would outshine them any day...

In example, I do think that the Lakers were pretty cool - and don't know if you know of it, but did were you aware that Shaquille O’Neal actually got his doctorate last year?

For reference, one can go here or here:

The actor who played D.C Universe "Steel" in the movie from the 90s (cheezy and B-Rated as it was  ) ...he's as intelligent as the comic version (although not in all areas since John Henry Irons was D.C universe's answer to Iron Man - and one I'd support) :) Seriously, any athelete pursuing his education has my respect immediately - as that's a rare thing nowadays in many places, even though it used to be expected :)

Came across this today:

Byzantine, Texas: Olympian gives medal to Athonite monastery

The medal will adorn an icon of the Mother of God!
