@ standingtall, Same here. I think most people go there to vent over some things they have witnessed. I have been to an IFB church myself and have seen many thing they talk about, especially with an egomania type pastor that made everything about him rather that point people to the glorious Gospel

1st a link for ease of use: Stuff Fundies Like

From the site under "about":

"What are fundamentalists (a.k.a “fundies”), exactly? It’s a hard definition to pin down because those who are in fundamentalism disagree vehemently about who should and should not be privileged to claim the title. George Marsden has famously described Christian fundamentalists as “evangelicals who are angry about something.”1 That definition is, perhaps, more true than most fundamentalists will admit.

For the purposes of this blog, “fundamentalism” is understood to be “Christian fundamentalism”, a movement that has its roots in rejecting “liberal” ideas such as German higher criticism and Darwinism.

The five fundamentals have commonly been held to be:
•The inspiration of the Bible by the Holy Spirit and the inerrancy of Scripture as a result of this.
•The virgin birth of Christ.
•The belief that Christ’s death was the atonement for sin.
•The bodily resurrection of Christ.
•The historical reality of Christ’s miracles.2

More specifically, for these posts, “fundamentalism” means “Independent Baptist Fundamentalism”, a movement that rejected not only liberal theology but also those parts of the culture that it considered to be “worldly” such as certain types of music, styles of dress, the theater, alcohol, and many others. These fundamentalist churches also separated themselves from association with any other movement they deemed too liberal or worldly; in fact, separating from things soon became their greatest distinctive — and a source of amusement to those of us who grew up in the movement."

The site is poorly named. By their first definition, I am a fundy. But I am not one by their second definition. The site needs to be clear who they are mocking.

Good information. By the "five-fundamentals" code, I would be one, too. What this site seems to be doing, from what I can see, is jabbing at the legalistic-type churches which seems to be confused with what true fundamentalism is. In my opinion, I don't think the makers of the site have mean intentions. Now, Landover Baptist is a horse of a different color, and if you want a nasty, blatant mockery of fundamentalism (and Christianity, in general), that would be it.

I believe Stuff Fundies Like is one of a series of Stuff [fill-in-the-blank] Like Websites, which seems to have been quite popular in recent years. Reaction to these sites will vary, depending on the individual.

Well maybe not angry, but perhaps grieved.

As you pointed out on the thread about abortion, if that number of dead does not make someone grieved then nothing will.

I am a IFB Preacher and Fundy is used to insult, not just on this forum but others. Since the Church in Kansas and the things they have done, has made it open season on the rest of us IFB. There is nothing wrong in being Grounded in the word of God, and understanding the Fundamentals of Christianity ; There are other Baptist churches allowing Homosexuality in the pulpit, yes IFB pulled away from Conventions. So the local New testament Churches could do what needed to be done serve our communities and to send out missionaries, preach the Gospel not try to keep up with the world.

Yes we our strict about believing in the Scriptures, and walking the walk taking up our cross and following Jesus Christ. We live in a society that believes take God out put the devil in our schools, and that includes Colleges. My Children Grandchildren and Greatgrand Children, so if it make people happy to call me a fundy or if they feel that the IFB is not where they want to be there are many other Churches.

?? How can it be more clear than the part bolded and underlined above?

The IFB movement is notorious for child molesters, adulterous preachers, and child abuse. Their claim that they are separated and independent is absolutely correct. They answer to no one but the local "pastor". He has the power, he has the control, and he is "God's man". NO one should question "Pastor", or they risk damnation and isolation. Many, many abuses have been covered up in the IFB cult houses instead of being reported to law enforcement under the guise of "hurting the testimony of Christ". That's hogwash.

Historical fundamentalism is getting a black eye, and being broadbrushed, because of "local new testament churches" such as those portrayed on that site.

And lo I was called up to the third heaven and the Apostle Peter began showing me around, and I saw this giant partician in heaven. It had four walls extending for eternity with no windows or doors, and I said to Peter, "Peter what is this?" And Peter said "This is where the Independent Bible Baptists are, they think they are the only ones here and we don't want to spoil it for them!"
