It is sad to see some people going off on tangents about only calling God one certain name. The Bible doesn't even do that; and if we look carefully, a vast treasure in God's Word, regarding all of His names; collectively, one name. Please, remember the phrase "collectively one name" throughout this study as it will come up more than once; and it is very important to this topic. But more on that in future posts.
Greetings Castaway and Others:
I have become a subject that is so grievous to some because I chose to keep all the Commandments of ELOHIM. We as SDA always harp on the Sabbath but the Bible clearly states if you break one you are guilty of all of them. How can you think to keep the Sabbath if you don't reverence THEIR NAMES?
Do not use MY NAME for evil purposes, for I, YAHWEH your ELOHIM, will punish anyone who misuses MY NAME. Ex 20:7 Good News Bible Version
The Hebrew word "shav" that is called in vain in English is not what the Strong Dictionary points out it states: in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin). Since it appears that some refuse to understand what this mean let us allow the Etymology Dictionary break it down.
Desolating Late Latin dēsōlātiōn- stem of dēsōlātiō ) abandonment: Word Origin & History
Destructive from V.L. destrugere (cf. It. distruggere), refashioned (influenced by destructus), from L. destruere "tear down, demolish," lit. "un-build," An Etymological Dictionary of Modern English
Ruin "act of giving way and falling down,"An Etymological Dictionary of Modern English
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. Isa 58:12
It appears to me that paths is plural and means not only the Sabbath but all the waste places and foundations that have been forgotten for many generations. It is so strange that everyone suppose to keep Sunday holy and not even just Christians but the whole world. Now everyone uses the same name God but does that make it right? Knowledge has increase as Daniel prophesied and today anyone who desires to know the truth can research and found the answer about paganism today. Students from an early age are taught history on Greco-Roman and how they have changed our society with modern democracy using the internet throughout the world. It seems strange that those with higher degrees cannot recognize that the world has been Hellenized!
God (n.) O.E. god "supreme being, deity; the Christian God; image of a god; godlike person," from P.Gmc. guthan (cf. O.S., O.Fris., Du. god, O.H.G. got, Ger. Gott, O.N. guð, Goth. guþ), from PIE *ghut- "that which is invoked" (cf. O.C.S. zovo "to call," Skt. huta- "invoked," an epithet of Indra), from root *gheu(e)- "to call, invoke." But some trace it to PIE *ghu-to- "poured," from root *gheu- "to pour, pour a libation" (source of Gk. khein "to pour," also in the phrase khute gaia "poured earth," referring to a burial mound; see found (v.2)). "Given the Greek facts, the Germanic form may have referred in the first instance to the spirit immanent in a burial mound" [Watkins]. Cf. also Zeus. An Etymological Dictionary of Modern English
Zeus supreme god of the ancient Greeks, 1706, from Gk., from PIE *dewos- "god" (cf. L. deus "god," O. Pers. daiva- "demon, evil god," O.C.S. deivai, Skt. deva-), from root *dyeu- "to gleam, to shine;" also the root of words for "sky" and "day" (see diurnal). The god-sense is originally "shining," but "whether as originally sun-god or as lightener" is not now clear.
Today, our word ‘theology’ (meaning the study of God) comes from “Theo,” the root word of “Theos.” It would be difficult to call the Almighty, “the Deity,” particularly in our culture. People will most likely always call the Creator by the term “God,” even though this word is in no manner associated with scripture. . .
The King James translators used a pagan Anglo-Saxon word “god” from the Germanic “gad.” No one has ever really challenged this widespread use of this Indo-European word. The King James translators made the same erroneous translation of the covenant name of the Almighty. They changed the name “Yahweh,” which means, “He is,” to the Anglo-Saxon word, “LORD.” Why? They cared less about the truth of scripture than orthodoxy, and they decide to conform and relate to their manmade tradition. It was too much work, too big a leap of faith, and too unorthodox to step outside of their paradigms and comfort zone. Craig Bluemel, “The Origin of the English Word for God Part One"
Oddly, the exact history of the word God is unknown. The word God is a relatively new European invention, which was never used in any of the ancient Judaeo-Christian scripture manuscripts that were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek or Latin.
According to the best efforts of linguists and researchers, the root of the present word God is the Sanskrit word hu which means to call upon, invoke, implore. Nonetheless, it is also interesting to note the similarity to the ancient Persian word for God which is Khoda. The following is a survey of some of the efforts of those who have been trying to decipher the ancient roots of the word God:Etymology of the Name God Now if the sources noted above are accurate, then the word that we use for the Supreme Being, God, comes from a very pagan origin. Thus the word god is used generically by many different religions to refer to their deity or “invoked one.” Some may laugh at the notion, the very idea that the word “God” has any origin or association with Hindu Sanskrit. To illustrate how this is possible, we again quote from ‘Family Word Finder’ on the historical development of our Modern English language:
The root-meaning of the name (from Gothic root gheu; Sanskrit hub or emu, "to invoke or to sacrifice to") is either "the one invoked" or "the one sacrificed to." From different Indo-Germanic roots (div, "to shine" or "give light"; thes in thessasthai "to implore") come the Indo-Iranian deva, Sanskrit dyaus (gen. divas), Latin deus, Greek theos, Irish and Gaelic dia, all of which are generic names; also Greek Zeus (gen. Dios, Latin Jupiter (jovpater), Old Teutonic Tiu or Tiw (surviving in Tuesday), Latin Janus, Diana, and other proper names of pagan deities. The common name most widely used in Semitic occurs as 'el in Hebrew, 'ilu in Babylonian, 'ilah in Arabic, etc.; and though scholars are not agreed on the point, the root-meaning most probably is "the strong or mighty one."
And in all that I have said to you take heed. And make no mention of the name of other mighty ones, let it not be heard from your mouth. Ex 23:13 Scripture 98+ Version (This version transliterate strictly from the Hebrew.)
The HEAVENLY FATHER has a NAME and surprisingly Adventist needs to proclaim this truth to world. The MAJESTY on HIGH NAME is mention 6,823 times in the Scriptures, yet it was falsely concealed by declaring it was too holy to write or to pronounce. Jewish translators or scholars were extremely impartial only having a form of holiness, creating false doctrines and traditions of an unreachable FATHER. Why would the FATHER through HIS SON announce HIS NAME YAHWEH to Moses, His servant for him to speak and to write down that we all might know how the THREE work together? The Scriptures clearly provide the mystery of salvation. And the Scriptures provided the importance of the only true personal NAME of the FATHER ALMIGHTY, and the NAME of HIS SON. YAHSHUA our SAVIOR'S NAME is the only NAME that gives salvation and the HOLY SPIRIT who leads and guide repentant sinners back to the FATHER! These HOLY NAMES are not meant to be forgotten, abbandon, left it behind, or even ruin THERE NAMES! Satan is happy because he want the world to keep us with these pagan names to dishonor the ALMIGHTY ONES and remember him and his anges the mighty ones! And SDA is gladly sounding the tune!!!!
Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is HIS NAME, and what is HIS SON'S NAME, if you know it? Proverbs 30:4
I am YAHWEH that is MY NAME: and My Honor will I not give to another (name), neither MY praise to graven images. Isaiah 42:8
Sing unto ELOHIM, sing praises to HIS NAME: Extol HIM that Rides upon the Heavens by HIS NAME YAH, and rejoice before Him. Psalm 68:4
Thy Name O YAHWEH, endureth forever; Thy Memorial, O YAHWEH, throughout all generations. Psalm 135:13
If YAHWEH be ELOHIM, follow HIM; but if Baal, then follow him. 1Kings 18:21 (Hebrew: Baal = Lord)
And they that know THY NAME will put their trust in THEE. Psalm 9:10
“HALLOWED be THY NAME." Matthew 6:9
How shall we search the Scriptures in order to understand what they teach? We should come to the investigation of ELOHIM Word with a contrite heart, a teachable and prayerful spirit. We are not to think, as did the Jews, that our own ideas and opinions are infallible; nor with the papists, that certain individuals are the sole guardians of truth and knowledge, that men have no right to search the Scriptures for themselves, but must accept the explanations given by the fathers of the church. We should not study the Bible for the purpose of sustaining our preconceived opinions, but with the single object of learning what ELOHIM has said. Some have feared that if in even a single point they acknowledge themselves in error, other minds would be led to doubt the whole theory of truth. Therefore they have felt that investigation should not be permitted, that it would tend to dissension and disunion. But if such is to be the result of investigation, the sooner it comes the better. If there are those whose faith in ELOHIM’S word will not stand the test of an investigation of the Scriptures, the sooner they are revealed the better; for then the way will be opened to show them their error. We cannot hold that a position once taken, an idea once advocated, is not, under any circumstances, to be relinquished. There is but ONE who is INFAILLABLE--He who is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.
Those who allow prejudice to bar the mind against the reception of truth cannot receive the divine enlightenment. Yet, when a view of Scripture is presented, many do not ask, Is it true--in harmony with ELOHIM’S Word? but, By whom is it advocated? and unless it comes through the very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it. So thoroughly satisfied are they with their own ideas that they will not examine the Scripture evidence with a desire to learn, but refuse to be interested, merely because of their prejudices. YAHWEH often works where we least expect HIM; HE surprises us by revealing HIS Power through instruments of HIS OWN choice, while HE passes by the men to whom we have looked as those through whom light should come. ELOHIM desires us to receive the truth upon its own merits--because it is truth.
The Bible must not be interpreted to suit the ideas of men, however long they may have held these ideas to be true. We are not to accept the opinion of commentators as the voice of ELOHIM; they were erring mortals like ourselves. ELOHIM has given reasoning powers to us as well as to them. We should make the Bible its own expositor. TM 105, 106
Finally, some of you claim to believe in EGW and scoff when she herself states she is a messenger. Well I believe in this remarkable woman so hear ye her! I will continue to present truth and those who choose not to believe it that is all right. However, those who want to learn to discuss sensibly with a contrite spirit to see if these things are true I am here to study with you. I do not know all things but what I do know and understand by the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT I will present and leave it up to each one to choose in their own mind what is truth.
Bless and bless the President,
