It is sad to see some people going off on tangents about only calling God one certain name. The Bible doesn't even do that; and if we look carefully, a vast treasure in God's Word, regarding all of His names; collectively, one name. Please, remember the phrase "collectively one name" throughout this study as it will come up more than once; and it is very important to this topic.

This is a subject that is very close to my heart - the name of God. As we can already see by this topic; He has many names; but from all my studies so far on this; I have concluded that all of these many names, are collectively, the "name above all names."

But more on that in future posts. :)

One of the many things we can notice about God's many names is that each one contains the answer to some felt need that we all have from time to time. This is part of what makes a relationship with God so personal. So without further delay; I will begin posting names of God. There will be a scripture to show where each name comes from. Some of them I will comment on, some of them I won't because they speak for themselves so eloquently.

Yahweh - Nissi

"The Lord, my banner-victory"

Exodus 17:15

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." (Proverbs 18:10 ).

yehovah

- self existent or eternal, Jehovah. The Jewish national name for God. Jehovah, the Lord

See Gen 15:1

In this text; "the Word of the Lord [yehovah] comes to Abraham and says "Fear not...I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." An eternal Shield! An eternal reward! I can't think of anything better to start my work day with!

"The name of the Lord is a strong Tower: the righteous run to it and are safe...(Proverbs 18:10 ).

I am interested in the name Elohim which means many.
That will be a great focus for another post, when I have time to come back here. :) Remember in my opening post where I said to remember "name above all names" in a collective sense? Your comment my be a part of that so I will definitely make it around to the name "Elohim" soon. Thanks! :)

I have one more post to sneak in before I leave for the day...

This next name of God is very near and dear to me. I recall "a few years ago, as a literature evangelist, a young man and his three children, whose door I had knocked on early one evening.

As it turned out, this fellow, and his little ones were alone; they had lost their wife/mother to cancer, just a few weeks before my visit. I don't know, perhaps some would say I am stretching the meaning a little, but we typically think of just ladies being a "widower" when the spouse dies, but after this visit, I have always thought of men who lose a spouse, as a widower too.

Anyways; I have fond memories of that night. As I was doing the Literature Evangelism "sales pitch;" it came out that this family was very distressed, thinking that somehow, they would never see their lost loved one again.

Everyone started crying, great tears of joy and thanksgiving as I started to read the account of the resurrection, from 1 Thes 4: 13-18 , and it was of particular note to the family that this passage of scripture said, at the end: "Comfort one another with these words."

The man could not believe all the empty promises at the funeral about how his beloved was already in heaven somehow, watching them all grieve and suffer like this - and all he could think was how that heaven must not be a happy place if we all go there before the resurrection, only to have our loved ones suffer so, and see it all in living color.

The man could not stop crying; and it was tears of joy at this good news of Jesus Christ; and even though I made a huge sale; I also could not stop crying as I walked out that door...

So the name for God that I am submitting for this post is as follows:

"Defender Of Widows"

Psalms 68:5

"The name of the Lord is a Strong Tower: the righteous run to it and are safe." (Proverbs 18:10 ).

It actually means more than just one. It is plural and stands for the ALMIGHTY ONES. If you need more information just send may a line because there is plenty.
